Thanks everyone! Thanks for the tips Chickenboy. I am waiting for northern troops to join in Georgetown, then I'll retreat southbound along the nice road, just leaving the force bases to be evacuated to Sumatra when the enemy will draw nearer. Ive put up a road-block just north of Kuala Lumpur in a jungle+mountain hex and behind a river, let's hope it can slow them down if the Kuantan and the Kota Bharu forces don't get there at the same time.
Well it seems the enemy may come for Mersing. I am throwing the kitchen sink there.

About reinforcements: yes we're giving up on Malaya. I'll send some troops to port Blair to protect my build up there, and the rest of them in Burma and Australia I guess. I suppose everyone advises me not to commit anything else to Singapore?

About the DEI: little KB raced to Sorong last turn, probably to provide somekind of air cover for the Ambon landing. I think they know we're building up in the area. So I'll strike him someplace he's weak instead. More of this next turn I guess [:)]

Not doing a detailed report yet - my stomach is in shatters (that's the main reason why it was so long before I send the new turn, apologies - Hey Chickenboy, thanks for your little tropical friends [:D] [;)]). The turn has been very sub-heavy. I lost another couple tankers - I think I'll give up DEI fuel evac, it's too risky for what it is. At least, that's fuel they will never have.
Dutch Subs were mervellous, and sank 2 xAK & 1 xAKL (with a double kill and a ASW game for KXV!). Cam Ranh Bay will be soon crowded with ships, including ships bringing land units, so I have to stick to the place and try to disrupt the reinforcement effort.

Another nice combat this turn was the gallant attack of the Allied PT force in the Phillipines. Very aggressive commanders completely change the behavior of such TF, it will never be said often enough.

In Manilla, the Royal Navy is playing with the Rikkos, and they make them look like fools. The hit ratio on such small targets with torpedoes (with VERY BAD weather) indeed looks like something much more realistic now (do you remember early WitP betties scoring on PT-boats? ^^).

A little vengeance: the enemy attacks Sorong, instead of going directly for Ambon (thanks, gave me some time to evacuate bits of the powerful base force there). But terrible xAKL Mauban looms in the shadows, and meets part of baby KB. For more than a dozen rounds (!), both TF get closer or further from each other, until both sight each other. In the ensuing panic, some fun happens to HIJMS Kitakami and one of its big guys. Kitakami is listed as sunk (well I don't really believe in early christmas this year though, Intel guys...).

I have to disagree with Canoerebel, John is aggressive but he isn't very strategic. He sees targets and hits them and strings operations together through happenstance rather than a deep strategic plan. This can be used, IMO, to lead him where you wish.
Indeed, I think this is what just happened in Sorong: didn't look like he planned it from the start. In Morotai, the TF that get mauled is landing troops on a deserted island, he's lucky I don't have anything bigger than a PB there (he sent a couple destroyers to protect the place). But I think I know where I can get a cheap victory in the next two turns. The question is: do I want to gamble for Ambon, or try something else I know will most probably succeed, but may not have the same consequences? Well, let's see.

I used IrfanView personally, with Paint.net for editing.

Not at a pc so don't have the link, but it shouldn't be hard to find on google.

I've read good things about IrfanView but have not used it. I'm using this one: Greenshot

It's free & open source, it's real simple, works well, wide range of file types and save options.

BTW, I was using ScreenHunter free, but it only copied at 72 dpi, whereas my screen is 96 dpi. They require registration for $29 to unlock various functions like 100% resolution.

I will be taking screenshots also, I have a program I bought (I know what a terrible thought[:D]) called snagit. We just got beaten around the head and shoulders that last turn, there seems to be a million jap aircraft and carriers all over

Some better action today, but our trap didn't spring that well... Damn! A golden opportunity missed, all of this because apparently my BB captain didn't feel like using his main battery. More details tomorrow I think...

Miller please make the update, I am too depressed for this mate. I lost 6000 brave Chinese soldiers just because Im too dumb to see a river when I move a stack. Well no, it's ok, Im gonna sweep my own sh*t right. [:o]
But I'll talk only about the bigger stuff, I am just too sad...!

All - Thanks for the recommandations, I chose Greenshot in the end. Works pretty well :)

Rob - Thanks mate [;)] and now please stay in the boat! Many more exciting action to come for the RN! But, hell, you'd better go there and kick some asses: those guys can't hit sh*t, I am VERY DISAPPOINTED! I just checked: the whole 15' ammo was expended FOR NILL. Man, I hate that stuff sometimes, grrr!
To add insult to injury, brave Stronghold collides with BB Jellicoe, and is 95 float now. Bye bye, buddy. This sucks. THEY WILL PAY!

Image

No chance I'm letting them get away with it. One of the Cruisers must be limping: it HAS to go down at any cost. The RN is sucking some more Japanese blood tonight again, chaps!

Elsewhere: the average terrible situation. I got tricked at Mersing, the enemy landed as much as 600 AV on the first day. Well, honestly, I'd have brung the whole Malayan army there I guess it wouldn't have changed much. I think that Sir Robin has to come to the rescue now. Well, sort of.

Now the "good" news: at least the Dutch submarines made some kills - one had non-exploding torps, but the other one killed one precious DD (probably from the KB screen). One dead, a hundred left to go! And that's not that many... [8D]

Image

But everytime they do something cool like that, they have to come back limping... Hum IJN ASW is a little bit better in Juan's mod I guess?

And, as a last sidenote, some transports got torched in front of Ambon with little Imperial soldiers aboard. Good guys!

Image

But in the end, seriously, how can that be possible:
Ground combat at Ichang (83,48)

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 10486 troops, 75 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1696

Defending force 14905 troops, 116 guns, 42 vehicles, Assault Value = 553

Allied adjusted assault: 0 --> WTF MAN?!

Japanese adjusted defense: 307

Allied assault odds: 1 to 99 (fort level 3)

Combat modifiers
Defender: forts(+), experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+)

Allied ground losses:
     6008 casualties reported
        Squads: 204 destroyed, 156 disabled
Non Combat: 134 destroyed, 205 disabled
        Engineers: 0 destroyed, 21 disabled

Assaulting units:
   8th Chinese Corps
   45th Chinese Corps
   2nd Chinese Corps
   68th Chinese Corps
   32nd Chinese Corps
   67th Chinese Corps
   75th Chinese Corps
   26th Group Army

Defending units:
   34th Division
   13th RGC Temp. Division

Didn't plan especially on attacking, I was just moving my troops around, honest. Just didn't see the river (or didn't notice Id say), it's the first time I am moving troops elsewhere than over the Owen Stanley Range, so... But how can a ZERO ajusted AV actually be even remotely possible?! I mean, the malus does divide the AV number, it does not substract from it, right? In this case a 0 would be mathematically just impossible...! Do you think it's somekind of bug...?!

If I understand things correctly, when crossing rivers one unit takes all damage for the team, at least in some case. Check if just one corps was near-annihilated.

Well it sure is strange, because 6000 men got killed and nobody on the other side even got hurt[8|]. I am sorry but if I saw 10000 men attacking with artillery you would think someone would at least get killed by accident on the other side[:D] even if they died laughing

Aye, I have to check. But we're using Beta here, and the former rules (the "everybody hurts, everybody cries!" ones) should be in activated.
