Short Movement and HMG Sound Q:

Post by AbsntMndedProf »

Two questions that have been in the back of my mind for a while:

1. When I click on certain unit types, cavalry and motorcycle units come to mind, I see a range of hexes highlighted around them, indicating their movement capabilities, I've always thought. Yet, when I order such a unit to move to the extreme edge of its movement area, it always seems to stop at least one to three hexes short of where I thought it could move.

2. Why is it that the horse drawn HMG of the Poles makes an AFV sound when it moves? Just curious about this one. :)

Thanks!

That polish unit sounds like an AFV because it's classed "wheeled ATG" but there's no sound file defined. Thus it's sound defaults to whatever sound is allocated to that particular unit class. For example, the russian tachanka uses sound file '36' which does sound like horses :)

Thanks for clearing that up Voriax! I had an image in my mind's eye of horses with tracks . . . :D

It would seem that there is a 'dice roll' involved with the expenditure of movement points. I have also found that sometimes the unit can move to the edge of its 'movement' zone or will sometimes NOT be able to. At least ONE factor is the route chosen, where some hexes are more expensive to move thru than others. But there seems to be some other factor involved, like the previously mention dice roll.

Other things that seem to affect moving -

Weather, and different terrain types. Also the route taken. The program attempts to show the the maximum distance that can be covered but sometimes the route necessary is not desireable.

You will lose movement points due to combat friction. Being spotted generates this. So if you click on a hex 10 hexes away, and the unit is spotted during its movement, it will lose points, and not make it to the destination hex.

Good point! I had forgotten about the friction effect. So there are several things that can modify what appears to be the movement radius.

Yes! I should have thought of that too! Thanks Prof!;)

bigtroutz! Don't Goblin bash. That would put you at the level of some of these base-born neanderthals (birdy-boy, Doomsta) that pick on me constantly (poor me). You are much smarter than that, as evidenced by your original post!:p ;)
