RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta)

Hi there !
The same problem with me with a HP Pavillion dv6 with windows 7 x64 bits with a NVIDIA G105M, the standard screen resolution in my desktop is 1366x678. I have created a new shortcut from WITP AE main folder with the following text line:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1366 -py0768 -SingleCpuOrders -cpu2 -multiaudio -dd_sw -deepColor

Don´t works with this and others -px -py options, probably I would not be able to change widescreen resolution with my -py0768, but I ´m not sure.
Thanks in advance for any advice ! :)
Best of wishes
Ramón

Hi
As i understand the widescreen support doen't function if your resolution is LESS THAN or Equal TO -px1024 or -py768 -------------then the screen will default to -xp1024 -py768
Your display is 1366 , 768 therefore wil stay at 1024 , 768

hope this helps

RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta)

I've got full screen-wide screen working, and I'm trying to get windowed-wide screen working. I do have updated drivers, I got them when wide-screen came out in Beta.

My monitor/card supports:

1680 x 1050
1440 x 900
1360 x 1024
1360 x 768

At 1680 x 1050 everything looks too grainy on my particular monitor, so I run at 1440 x 900.

AE full-screen works at 1680 x 1050 and 1440 x 900 fine (but as above I use 1440 x 900).

I am trying to find a good windowed-wide screen setting for when I jump back and forth to other programs, make screen captures, and so on.

1440 x 900 windowed works but obvious is too big.
1360 x 1024 windowed works but obviously is too big in the vertical direction.
1360 x 768 windowed seems to revert to the default window size - not wide-screen.

My question:
Is there a list of the resolutions that are supported for windowed mode? I would like to experiment and see what size will be suitable for windowed mode on my monitor, but guessing which sizes are supported isn't working too well!

EDIT TO ADD: I should mention that I have upgraded to the official Patch 3 release, and I have tried various combinations of resolution but it seems like most just go to the default resolution.

The 1024x768 setting is definately the default. Everything i try just reverts to this setting. I can't make this thing work on my widescreen laptop no matter what I try. But thanks for all the advice guys.

From the Patch notes:
(bold, color, italics and underline added for emphasis)
Wide Screen Support
New in the third official update:

-px -py

To have any effect x must be greater than 1024 and y must be greater than 768.

If values less than or equal to px=1024 and py=768 are used the original values of 1024 and 768 will be
substituted.

TS - sure, but there's more. Even above those values, only certain combinations seem to work while many (or most) combinations also default to 1024x768.

Is there a list of the combinations that work? Or, does it vary for every video card? Do you know?

The combinations that work have to be supported by your video card... the easiest most simple way to find them (I'm using Vista):

1. Right click on your desktop

2. Click Personalize

3. Click Display Settings

4. In the lower left will be a sliding scale that will show you all of your available resolution settings.

As also stated in the incuded "WHAT'sNEW" PDF :
...user should ensure that both the video adapter and monitor support the px and py values.

OK, but it wasn't clear if that was only for full screen mode. I guess it's true for windowed mode because AE isn't really doing windowed mode, it's sort of doing a full-screen mode inside a window.

Thanks!

It is my understanding that a change is in the works that will allow people with 1366 x768 widescreens to use that setting...MichaelM or BigJ can comment further.

My video card supports 1360 x 768 and 1280 x 768 (but not 1366 x 768). Any chance of either of those resolutions being included?

(BTW, I use 1440 x 900 for full screen. I would love to be able to do wide-screen in windowed mode, which is the point of the question.)

It is planned to allow the px,py settings to be equal to 1024, 768, and to relax the AND condition (i.e. px >= 1024 || py >= 768. Using px,py of 1024,768 will behave the same as if they were NOT set.)
We will rely on the valid screen settings to filter out any bad combination.

No that's not on the list but I figured out what works pretty well for me.

I cannot get widescreen support at all. I have a NIVIDIA graphics card and windows 7. Before I reinstalled Windows 7 it worked fine.
I am using command line:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1920 –py1080

Am I doing anything wrong?
The screen is now really small and difficult to read.

As you reloaded win 7 ,have you reloaded your drivers ?-monitor and graphics card?
do you have the NVIDIA control panel loaded , if so open it and goto display - change resolution to see list of available resolutions.
or have you tried other resolutions ?

Your queston was answered in the other thread. Do not copy and paste the switches, type it in manually.
