Weather Questions

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Weather Questions

Post by Michael T »

Can someone help me out with the weather?

Last turn in a PBEM as Allied I had 3 missions that did not launch. Could that have been because of bad weather? If so why not some kind of message?

Also does the cloud graphic actually have any impact on operations? Or is the chance of bombing through cloud purely a mathematical chance based on the overall cloud coverage for a weather zone? I ask because my opponent has informed me that often a message pops up during execution that my bombers are bombing thru cloud when there is no cloud anywhere near the target??? Ofcourse if the replay actually showed where the clouds were I could work that out for myself. The information in the manual is so lacking that even the most simple things can't be worked out. AND if players can't figure out what is supposed to happen how can they determine if an effect is WAD or a bug?

Missions will delay launch because of weather, and will show up as a message on the screen. If you are a pbem'er try running the replay in windowed mode using the hot keys to control the replay. You should have better results, regarding messages.

The cloud graphic is the actual location of the cloud (pg. 53 of the manual.) Although I have seen strange things with the cloud graphics piling up at the bottom of the screen and, as you mentioned, the game reporting clouds where there are none.

missions will have a chance of a 10 minute delay if the weather over the take off base is bad, some times it can be delayed over and over again, other times if the weather is deemed too bad, it will cancel

there will be breaks and opening in the cloud base, some time, you can get lucky and being in a cloud mass and still find a opening to make a good bomb run, if no opening found, it will head toward the 2ndary target if one is set (setting the same target as the primary and secondary will tell the raid to try and bomb though the clouds)

some times all it takes is a tiny wiff of clouds to cover the target (this is when it looks like "not a cloud in the sky") most of the art work clouds are those based on the report

weather has a major effect on the game, at times more so then the enemy does

?

hmmm, bad weather in the game is the same as bad weather in real life, it may be lousy and crummy where you are at, and great where I am at ?

all it takes is a small area of clouds/fog to screw up a airfield or a target, so, it can be all 3 to be honest

(in my area, I have seen on the freeway, where you can't see though the rain, drive under a bridge and the other side, is no rain at all, last snow storm, I got 3 feet, where I work (7 miles away) had no snow) (I get a lot of drifs, in fact part of my yard can be clean and the driveway is buried)

in other words, I not sure how to reply :)

Thanks HS. So if a mission does not launch at all (last turn my 400 plane strong night bombing mission did not take off, yet all the supporting fighters and electronic warfare planes did) is it only because of bad weather or could it be something else? As allied in PBEM I get no message about delays or what not, not yet anyhow and I am up to turn 30.

I have no problem with the effects of weather as it was a reality. But I am in the dark as the allies to what is going on with my missions getting scrubbbed or delayed. In the mission report there is nothing about delays or cancellations. I think we need some more info here regarding weather.
