Perfecting Turn 1
AFAIK it was possible in WitP to play and test a turn 1 for the Japanese against the AI and correct errors and then convert this turn from an AI save to a PBEM save and use it for your first turn in a PBEM - it doesnt seem that this is possible for AE - am i pressing the wrong buttons or do i have to design a turn 1 from the ground up?
RE: Perfecting Turn 1
Do it as PBEM, but just save before you end the turn ... Test by entering an Allied password ... test then ... go back to the previous save to change, enter Allied pw etc ...ORIGINAL: undercovergeek

MAKE SURE ALL MOVEMENT BONUS TASK FORCES ARE SET TO DIRECT ROUTING. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT.

Now if there was only a way for the Allied FBs to get the same do over for things we forget. It does seem to be a gamey thing to do. Minor in the grand scheme but gamey all the same. I'll put on my flame retardant undies now

It's easy to lose the war in the first 6 months as Japan. It's very hard for the same thing to happen as the Allies. Thus, a little latitude is needed. [:D]

I don't think it is all that gamey. Japan prepared their opening moves very carefully and the Allies were reacting. So a few mistakes by the Allies is probably historical and a well planned opening by Japan is again historical.

to do over is only for the Japanese.
@WLockard - I wasn't born yet so I may be sketchy on all details but I don't think the Japanese were able to see their moves on Dec 7th, say something like, "@#$%, forgot to set the SCTF to bombard. Everybody move back to your starting positions, turn the clocks back and let's try this again." I'm only saying that the ability to redo your movement after seeing the results of the move violates the spirit of PBEM.
Does it happen in the game...no doubt. I'm sure most Japanese players already have a 1st turn PBEM file already setup and massaged to perfection just waiting to find an opponent for it. Given the time for a first turn setup that makes a lot of sense. Also everyone says that the war is four years long. A mistake on Day 1 isn't a game killer. Do like our RL countparts did. Cinch up your belt, relieve a couple of (digital) subordinates who screwed up and adapt to the current situation. That's what makes the game fun.

Didn't you read the "How To Hammer The Allies On Turn One"? Todd
I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

In fairness most PBEM's have house rules that limit the allied actions on turn 1 anyway. If you are only able to issue orders to TF's already at sea and Chinese land units then how many variations are you going to come up with anyway.

i have all kind of cunning plans up my sleeve - i love the historical context of the game but theres no way im bombing Pearl and then trying to replicate the WitP for real and hand my carriers over at Midway - skullduggery and underhandedness must be planned to perfection, the Japanese should hit hard and fast and keep going for as long as possible and to find that TF17 has stopped at an atoll because i didnt set do not unload is going to put a dent in the emporers plans im not willing to risk, now on trun 2 is my own stupid fault, but at turn 1 i have an opportunity - just 1, to make sure it gets done right.
The japanese didnt have turbo moves but i get to use these too, they didnt have PDU on but i do, im given all sorts of help and assistance on turn 1 and only turn 1, and its right, the Allies getting tangled up at sea on turn 1 is fine, theyll get there turn 2, the Japanese getting tangled up on turn 1 could be disastrous

Seeing as how the Japanese Army and Navy had months if not years to work on their "first turn move", along with some of the best military minds providing planning functions, "massaging" the "first turn move" in AE isn't gamey, IMO.
