RE: THE THREAD!!!
The real cause of WW1:
Baldrick: No, the thing is: The way I see it, these days there's a war on, right? and, ages ago, there wasn't a war on, right? So, there must have been a moment when there not being a war on went away, right? and there being a war on came along. So, what I want to know is: How did we get from the one case of affairs to the other case of affairs?
Edmund: Do you mean "How did the war start?"
Baldrick: Yeah.
George: The war started because of the vile Hun and his villainous empire- building.
Edmund: George, the British Empire at present covers a quarter of the globe, while the German Empire consists of a small sausage factory in Tanganyika. I hardly think that we can be entirely absolved of blame on the imperialistic front.
George: Oh, no, sir, absolutely not. (aside, to Baldick) Mad as a bicycle!
Baldrick: I heard that it started when a bloke called Archie Duke shot an ostrich 'cause he was hungry.
Edmund: I think you mean it started when the Archduke of Austro-Hungary got shot.
Baldrick: Nah, there was definitely an ostrich involved, sir.
Edmund: Well, possibly. But the real reason for the whole thing was that it was too much effort *not* to have a war.
George: By God this is interesting; I always loved history -- The Battle of Hastings, Henry VIII and his six knives, all that.
Edmund: You see, Baldrick, in order to prevent war in Europe, two superblocs developed: us, the French and the Russians on one side, and the Germans and Austro-Hungary on the other. The idea was to have two vast opposing armies, each acting as the other's deterrent. That way there could never be a war.
Baldrick: But this is a sort of a war, isn't it, sir?
Edmund: Yes, that's right. You see, there was a tiny flaw in the plan.
George: What was that, sir?
Edmund: It was bollocks.
Baldrick: No, the thing is: The way I see it, these days there's a war on, right? and, ages ago, there wasn't a war on, right? If I was Hitler: I'd have read celeb magazines, watched reality TV and soap operas, worn shellsuits and made prisons comfortable places to stay. Then all those things would be unpopular in the modern world [:D]
Is it Woody Allen, wich in one of his film, make this statement:
"When i hear Wagner, i want to invade Poland" [;)]
Yes it was Woody Allen: "I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland." I believe it's from the movie Manhattan Murder Mystery.

The six daughters of the family were known collectively as the Mitford sisters. Nancy and Jessica became well-known writers and Deborah managed one of the most successful stately homes in England. Jessica and Deborah both married nephews-by-marriage of prime ministers Winston Churchill and Harold Macmillan, respectively. Deborah and Diana married wealthy aristocrats. Unity and Diana were well known during the 1930s for being close to Adolf Hitler

I've had Boddington's over here. I sure hope it tastes different in your neck of the woods, cause it is pretty rank. Time doesn't do beer any good deeds, so I suspect that may have something to do with it.

Lots of the old landed gentry went broke, eh, Simon, what with their lavish spending and poor management of Dad's and Granddad's Blackacre? Freed up a lot of land for new mosques, though, so it couldn't have been an altogether bad thing... lots of new faces in the House of Lords, too.ORIGINAL: sprior
Incidentally, are there any poor aristocrats? Aren't you Brits opposed to redundant adjectives in your writings?
It's Wikipedia, it could have been written by anyone who claims to "speak English".

It's amazing what you learn on these forums. I always thought, for example, that most of the harm to the Axis powers' war effort in WWII was done by the Allied powers.ORIGINAL: Chickenboy
To be fair to the OP, someone should have asked him if he would like to annex the Sudatenland to suss his views. Wouldn't that have been a bigger 'give away'?
Silly me! Turns out that all they needed Hitler and Tojo for was to get the world-conquest ball rolling, then for the REAL brains of the operation (whose names show up frequently in whole or in part as usernames here) to boot them aside, take over, run things properly and - dare I say it - rule the world.

Kinda pathetic that he said "sorry if this sounds anti-semitic". It didn't "sound" like it, it WAS.
Not kinda. It was absolutely pathetic. And down right sickening! [:@]

I was going to go and apologize to everyone for this guy if he was a countryman. I can't tell where he's from by reading his profile, however.
No never mind, I think I'd like to apologize for him anyways:
"On behalf of all carbon-based life forms inhabiting the planet Earth, I sincerely apologize for the comments reflected by this individual."
Don't apologize for him. [:(] He said it all by himself.

And he was also too cowardly to own up to being a Nazi. He believes the Jews started WWI, and he believes the "Stab in the Back" myth. Two firm pillars of Nazi ideology. That, along with the aforementioned cowardice, is three strikes and you're out, Adolf.
And just plain too stupid to realize how wrong and offensive he is. [:(]

Naw. I refuse to permit the end of the world to rely on the vagaries of overstroked celebrity egos. Sure, I've heard of the twit, but to submit your actress' credentials by "starring" in a Herbie movie? Please.[8|]
By the way, if she prevails, I'm patenting the names Mike, Steve, Simon, Yuri and Kristian. I ought to pull in a cool Million annually by taxing you spambots. [:'(]
No you don't! [X(] My lawyer can beat your lawyer! And better yet , mine works for free! [:D]
What makes you think she would do pro bono work for you? [:'(]
Simply that since we've been married I've done the cleaning, laundry, shopping and cooking 5 out of 7 days a week (in addition to working). She can do the pro-bono legal work once every ten years or so , or she can take over her share of the household drudgery. Which would you pick? [:D]
