Just a couple of points regarding you industry, turn off the production of all your armament factories, you have enough points to last you just about the rest of the war, also review your a/c engine factories, you seem to have large stocks of several engines and wont need any more of those types for a long time.

You need to start building up a HI point stockpile, this should start to rise just by doing the above.

Turned of Armamnet about 20 turns ago, what engines should I turn off?

Well I had some Surface TF's moving into the area coming down on the East coast of the PI, my search never picked up any CV's, so I I got a working over. Did not lose many ships but many will need work. I think the big boys will need a month or so in a yard to get fixed up.

I now have my CV's moving back into the area after they got more trops, so hopefully I can catch those CV's of his or some nice transports with troops. At this point I rather sink transports with troops than anything else, does that make me sane.

It could have been better, but oh well just trying to slow him down.

RE: How Not to Play as Japan (A mid 43 AAR) NO Freeboy

Post by Zeta16 »

We have reached September of 43. About the only news is that he took Talaud-eilanden and I lost a carrier to a subs and divebombers.

First Hiryo was hit by one torp, see had about 20 flood damage, so I released that taskforce to go back to Manila.

So see goes on to sink with 63 planes, not many pilots died at least.

So he lands at Talaud-eilanden, I have about 20 AV there, so it will not hold. Japan only has so many troops and now there are so many islands to cover. It does not help that 0(4) airfield bases go to 4 in about a week or so, which I think leads to a rapid Allied advance. However, I got good some good licks on him after he landed as I got a bunch of ships even some APA's.

But he did end up sinking the Atago in air attcks that afternoon. So we are up to 9/43 and I hope to keep a resource line to Singapore open till at least mid 44, my HI after the month turn is 220k, so I am not sure how high I need to get it to.

My game sounds very close to yours in regards to the SWPAC. Once the Allies get ashore in eastern New Guinea its very easy for them to advance along the northern coast by land movement with the new AE "move" mode.

It doesn't matter, there are so many bases that can be bulit up very quick, and you can not defend them all with enough troops to make a difference. Plus my searches never spot any thing until it is to late and when I send KB out they go for a DD tf and can not hit a ship, over the last 3 or 4 months I have hit one DD in over 40 attacks.

I think many people are going to notice how fast the allies can move once they break the barrier of SI/NG. Bases are bulit really fast and there are so many of them in NG along the North coast as well as the little islands once you get past NG. As the Allies I see no need to take the atolls in the central pacific. They are harder to take and shorten your ship movement time down a little, but moving throw SI/NG is the way to go. No shock attack when you land, no troop limits, bigger airfields to base planes.

We are now to 10/43. The Allies have taken a few more Island bases around Moratai. Tenerate and Boela which did not advance the line to much, I had some troops on each but not enought to stop all out attacks. There ahve not been any surface actions of late as I can not get close as he spots me and divebombers hit me before I can come in to attack. He also landed on the dot base South of Mendano, which I had no clue was there, so when he landed I hat to search and see where the base was. So I hope he spends some time taking these bases before he tries to move into the PI or onto the Java area. I have reinforeced Java well, but can pull them out if he heads towards the PI. PI has been reinforced but there are so many island bases to defend, I just hope he picks the ones I have based men at. I have stared to draw down troops in Burma as there is no point in keeping it, plus I do not think he is going to advance there for a while as I keep seeing British troops in his landings. Plus once the lines of communication to Singapore are cut I will need the troops to defend CamRah Bay and Saigon.

I di have one good turn last night. I figured my CV's where taking a beating by subs in the close waters of the PI so I sent them to Japan regrouped and sailed between Truk and Kusaie and hit some transports of his, no troops on board so that sucks, but maybe he will have to devote rescources to patrol there.

Ok After I hit those transports South of truk I ran to the north to meet tankers a little north of Saipan. There I refueled and noticed he chased me from the South and there was a CV tf to the West by Yap. That one looked smaller so I set course to the West to intercept that one. Well I caught a main force of his. He said one was out of fuel waitng to refuel and the other was refueling. They lost a bunch of planes as the day before my fighters at Saipan took out close to 90 planes for close to no lose in the combat debut of the Jack. So I got some good shots in as I meet a few new CV's as you can see in the report.

So the next turn I tried to hunt down any of the cripples I could. So I end up getting a few. Not sure how many I sunk, but it will be less than I think as it seems every ship I sunk shows up again.

RE: How Not to Play as Japan (A mid 43 AAR) NO Freeboy

Post by Zeta16 »

Well we just got to 11/43 and he invades the Southern PI island at two bases Cotabato and Dadjangas. He also invaded one of islands right next to Jolo in Basilan which was undefended since there are to many islands to defend in any strength. I put a good hurting on his invasion with air power, but he got enough troops landed at Dadjangas to take it since I only had about 40 or so AV there. He came from the two old dutch bases just south of there mostly in barges and they really never get attacked by air any ways. The troops he landed on Cotabato are with out any more help as there TF got wiped of the earth. But I am afraid that on baes is all it will take because I can not hit the barges and I can not get surface fleets close enough because they are getting hit way before they can get close by Helldivers.

He got some PT boats north and several times came across my CV's, but no harm was done, and even got a Surface force there with a British CL, but no CV's where hit and the next day my planes sunk the CL. I tried to get a CL TF down here but it got shot up by 1000 lb bombs. I know I sunk a lot of ships and have sunk a lot lately but I can not stop him. The barges suck and I hate them at this point becasue they are hard to hit.

I wonder if he can keep up this tempo with all the shipping he is losing. Stopping any one invasion is probably impossible for Japan, but if you can attrition his shipping, that should slow things down.

I hope but I don't think I can. I hate LCI's and I hate heavy bombers they shot more of myn planes down than any thing. I hate allied DD's I can not hit them with divebombers and tb bombers, or even with CA's and BB's. At ttimes my planes 30 to 40 attack a tf of 2 of them and all of them miss, while his transports unload a hex away.

But on another note. I am bulding my HI stockpile up. I am up to 430k after the month flip. I am not moving any more supplies out of the HI so I can hold on once he get heavies into range of my shipping in the South China sea.

Things keep getting worse for the Japanese. I tried to cover a bunch of Surface action forces South to hit the ships he has off Dadjangas. So I use all of the CV's I have that can go as another is in the yard at Manila after a torp hit. Well things did not go as planned. First off some helldivers got through and put some bombs into the Akagi, which is finished off by level bombers.

You've done a great job against his subs. That should help a lot.

Yes and No, since we have played with good allied trops from the start, his subs have been good all game. I think 3 out of 4 Cv's I have lost are from subs getting hits to sink or damage to be caught by planes.

I am very interested to see how Kamis work. Any experience so far?

In WITP they weren't worth much.

I lost a bunch of CVEs to kamikazes in WitP, so I'm leary of them.

In my current PBEM AE game, an "early" kamikaze (it was 11/43) crashed into CV Essex, which went under.  Essex also took two TT and a few bombs, so it wasn't just the kami.
