It now reflects the true maximum react capability of subs. Good solution IMO, subs reacting all over the map
was too strong.

You got a point.

"Useless" is a bit of an exeggeration I think.
You can still limit them to a 1 hex search range, a 60mile radius is quite ok for recon, or adjust the sub path manually if you find a huge convoy further out.

Soon you'll be told that submarine float planes were almost useless in real war anyway, so now this is how it should be. Wait and see... [:D]

Actually I'm trying to use Glens as a recon planes. I set almost every Glen to train recon, but I think it'll take ages to get those pilots any decent recon skill. I hope that I can use I-boats to recon major allied naval bases in 1942.

I'm pretty sure my plan is not going to work, and I just lose the planes for nothing...

Yup. combining the range 1 with a patrol and you can still get a good effect.

If your using them in packs however then I'd leave them on search (random) max range 4 iirc , then as search planes can always have a chance to see 360 degrees within 4 hexes anyway why not leave it at 4, then other subs can benefit from spotting and in effect your more valuable float plane subs arent always in harms way all the time.

They are good at recon too even if the pilots got poor skills as even a level 1 recon DL will show if the port and airfield are occupied (and if troops are present) albeit without any detail. Could make the japanese initial wave much more efficient as you won't overkill an empty base and can stop suicidal invasions , unless you want the free recon ofc [;)].
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)
