sunk or not sunk?

I had a little run in with a Jap carrier task force. My 4 carriers against their 3. After a long battle I had two carriers with minor damage. The Japs lost 1 carrier and the other two had heavy damage.

I decided to chase them down but I couldn't find them. Where did they go? Well I switched sides just to find out and to my amazement they had sunk. Jap intel showed all 3 sunk. So I reloaded and switched back to the US side and checked the intel report and only 1 carrier showed sunk.

Not quite sure what happened here????

Its Fog of War....your intelligence might not confirm what you've sunk for up to three weeks after it happens.

3 weeks? You mean 3 months right? :)
