That is really weird. Why would the japs think Marcus Island is such a strategic asset??? Still, it is nice to see at least some action from the AI!

If I were playing as the Japanese, I'd try to take it back too. Marcus is close enough to Japan to deploy subs that can harass the Home Islands, and can replace Wake as a refueling stop between Pearl and the Philippines.
Still, it is nice to see at least some action from the AI!

I'm pleasantly surprised too - that was a good move. Looks like our buddy Aces8 may have a Guadalcanal-type situation on his hands. Hopefully the AI plays it smart and doesn't do anything stupid...

Yeah I couldn't believe the A.I. made the move to take back Marcus but it is a great location to raid the Japanese supply lines to Wake Island which I don't think I could retake unless I moved a massive force. I wanted to starve out the garrison on Wake by hitting the supply lines which seem to pass by Marcus. We'll have to see how this plays out. Hopefully the troops can hold out but I have something planned which may help.

Well the entrenched Infantry on Marcus have held off another Japanese shock attack. I am rushing all available shipping in the region to Eniwetok to pick up the Hawaii Division which will reinforce the 16th Infantry if they can hold out. I have the BB's Utah and Florida which were headed to the far east (Hong Kong) diverted towards Eniwetok. If the shipping can reach Eniwetok quick enough and can turn around and bring the Hawaii division in for support I think the island will be saved.

Well the R-19 is lost with all hands the captain died it was hit by an airplane operating off of Wake. R-19's keel was laid down by the Union Iron Works of San Francisco, California on 23 June 1917. She was launched on 28 January 1918 sponsored by Mrs. Robert L. Irvine, and commissioned on 7 October 1918 with Lieutenant Commander William F. Callaway in command. Following commissioning, which occurred one month before the Armistice with Germany ending World War I took effect, R-19 remained on the West Coast of the United States for nine months at San Pedro, California, until March 1919 then at San Francisco, California, undergoing overhaul, until June 1919. On 17 June 1919, R-19 got underway from the United States and commenced a transit to the Territory of Hawaii.
