I think we need some more space monsters added.

How about some eldritch horrors based on the cthulhu mythos?

I disagree, I find them too much fantasy. Instead I would prefer a Borg like race.

best of both worlds

actually an evil cyborg race would be pretty cool, especially if you have to unite all other races to fight them (or ally with them and help wipe out the other races).

I expect some clever modders will eventually do this.

A benevolent cyborg race is an option also.
Also, a completely robotic race. They could be of the race "Family" Robotic. 
 
Also a feathered avian race(Avian Family) and a floater gas giant habitation race(Floater Family maybe). :)
Wish list:population centers beyond planetary(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Culture):Ships,Ring Orbitals,Sphere Orbitals,Ringworlds,Sphereworlds;ability to create & destroy planets,population centers,stars;AI competently using all advances & features.

Yes I think cylons or Borg, as some hive like race. No space monsters, bit too unrealistic I think. Any way humans would be the real monsters in any galaxy.
