What's the Latest on Close Combat?

Post by GaryChildress »

Has anyone heard any more about the Close Combat series? I've been largely away from Matrix forums lately, pre-occupied with work and a few other projects. I was looking forward to a remake of CC II A Bridge Too Far but haven't seen anything on it lately. Anyone know if this is in the works or not? Are there any more Close Combat titles in the pipeline for the near future?

tbh Gary I'm not entirely sure. As far as I gather (and can remember) it is preceived that Close Combat 2 will be remade. No-one has confirmed...but there were tones in posts from relevant people that it would be done.

I can't remember the thread or forum, but I do recall thinking "at least it's being considered". Alot of people have asked about Close Combat 2. I think it's widely accepted as the best of the series.

So I can't say for sure, but I am confident, from what I remember reading, that it will be re-done.

Wow! Saving the best for last.
But we are still missing a PTO version of CC (but of course that's a totally new game).

Matrix where at one time going to make a Pacific CLose Combat style game called close assault....with the regretable death of Combat Leader, close assault died aswell.

That's great news, Erik. I've always considered CC2 the best of the series. It also happens to be the first wargame that I played online against another person. Great fun! [:)]

My thoughts exactly. I'm still hoping that some new releases will be on the not so distant horizon. Although new improved versions of the classics are always welcome too.

Nope, it was a direct TCP/IP game, when that was a very new thing. My most memorable game, probably even to this day, was a battle where my opponent and I were down to one infantry man, each. They met in a final duel inside a house, and I got to watch my little grunt kill his, giving me the victory.

One of the all-time classic games, for sure. [8D]

I'd rather have the PTO version instead of rehash and remake of an old game like CC2. Can't wait for this Storm over the Pacific game to come out.

Better be careful Gary.

If Slaak hears you mention CC, he'll hound you til death about playing his pet CC3 map(s).
