Any way to turn off space monsters?

I did a search, and sorry if I missed it on a previous post, but is there any way to just turn space monsters completely off? I know a lot of people like them, but not my cup of tea...

I don't have the game up right now, but in the initial game setup screens, there should be a slider for Space Monsters. Not sure if the left-most setting turns them off entirely or just makes them very rare, but give it a try.

There's actually a background reason for why some of them exist too.

Yes- farthest left turns them down, but not entirely off. Thanks for the reply, and the game. So much to digest, but it looks and feels like a winner!

Maybe you could just change their arts to some 'mysterious space ship' and have them very rare?

On a related note, I can't attack any space monsters. Do you need specific weapons or ships to do so? Whenever I select any of my ships, the order just clears and there is a giant kaltor just eating everything at one of my planets.

Are your ships out of fuel/energy? Normally when you select a military ship and hold the mouse over a space monster, the cursor will change to a red targeting marker. A right click at that point will order it to attack the monster.

Ah ha. No energy. I guess I should have paid attention to those constant pleas for refueling, eh?

Yep. [:)] No problem though, if you automate them or just tell them to return to the nearest refueling point, they'll get there (albeit slower than if they still had fuel). As long as they don't have damaged hyperdrives they can always get back to refuel.

On a related question, does ECM help you with space monsters, or just other ships?

On a related note, is there an option to turn off pirates or at least dial them down?

Yes you can turn the pirates off. I have done this will I learn the game.
