Gifting Bug

I had a "close and friendly" relationship with another race, along with a mutual defense pact. Rather than using the "give gift" command, I went to the trade screen and gave them my best tech, asking for nothing in return. Their response was "Don't try to bully us" (???) and relations dropped about 10 points.
