Perhaps everyone except me already knew this, but I just checked the updater and 1.02 is on there :) I'd assumed there'd be an announement here when a new patch was out.

Are you sure MR? Sure, there have been announcements about the beta 1.02, but this could be the official one as it's available via the in game updater, rather than the member only FTP.

This is indeed the official one, we'll be posting the official announcement a bit later tonight.

This is effectively the same as the beta those of you on the forum have been using, with a few more notes in the readme. Although we may have had one crash and a minor glitch slip through from the list we intended to fix, it's still a major enough improvement over 1.0.1 that we wanted to get it out to as many customers as possible as soon as possible (and most customers don't check the forum or download public beta updates). We will try to catch any remaining crashes and other frequent issues in the next update.

I just got the update via the game menu "Check for updates":

Change History:v1.0.2 – March 28, 2010Second Official UpdatePlease note – this update does create a new save folder, although it will work withprevious saves. You need to navigate to the previous version save folder to open yourolder saves. Also, this update resets the automation settings in your Options. Pleaseopen the Options screen again to adjust them to your preference. Apologies for anyinconvenience.Fixes:1. Fixed overall Economy issues. A bug was introduced to order fulfillment thatprevented freighters from distributing resources properly, thus tanking thedevelopment level of your colonies over time. This has been fixed and testedagainst multiple customer savegames.2. Fixed crash at startup when Windows language settings are Polish or otherlanguages that use commas as decimal separators(tm.asp?m=2413949)3. Fixed crashes when zoom in/out at edge of galaxy(tm.asp?m=2414140)4. Fixed crash that occasionally occurs when opening Expansion Planner screen(tm.asp?m=2414116)5. Fixed crash that sometimes occurs when you sort items in Construction Yardsscreen by the Maintenance column (tm.asp?m=2414115)6. Fixed crash that occasionally occurs when explore ruins7. Fixed crashes when game ends. This problem was frequently showing up asrepeatable crashes when victory conditions set(fb.asp?m=2415200)8. Fixed bug that caused various crashes related to attempt to finish construction ofplanet destroyer. This bug manifested itself in a variety of unusual crashes, but theunderlying cause was any empire attempting to build the planet destroyer(fb.asp?m=2414757)9. Fixed crash caused by defeated empires sometimes still being referenced by otherempires (AndrewL encountered this)10. Fixed bug where could not retrofit to designs generated by "Upgrade" button inDesigns screen (fb.asp?m=241623)11. Fixed bug where player giving gift to other empires had no effect(tm.asp?m=2416641)12. Fixed crash when press Alt-F4 to exit Distant Worlds - this key combination isnow disabled while in the main gameBugs #7 and #8 above were causing most of the mysterious "Distant Worlds hasstopped working" crashes that have been reported. Hopefully we have seen thelast of those with this update.New Features:1. Added quick-save key shortcut: Ctrl-S, saves current game, or prompts for filename if no current save
Wish list:population centers beyond planetary(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Culture):Ships,Ring Orbitals,Sphere Orbitals,Ringworlds,Sphereworlds;ability to create & destroy planets,population centers,stars;AI competently using all advances & features.
