The A.I. and Pirates

Post by tgb »

In my current game (under 1.02) I started with a known Pirate base just one system over. I've been waiting 5 years for the A.I. to put a fleet together and take them out, but nothing's happening.

I know it's doable, because I was able to take manual control and do it,but I really just want to leave the military to my A.I. "General".

Is it just really conservative when it comes to fleet actions?

I've been having some problems with the military AI too - it doesn't seem to be doing much besides attacking enemy planets during a war at the moment.

One of the beta testers suggested that because Pirates can sometimes be useful (buying maps, hiring them as mercenaries, etc.)the A.I. does not take out their bases. I don't know if that's the answer, but it makes sense.

Still, if you have the A.I. set to "make suggestions", it should still ask if you want the Pirate base attacked.

I have had the AI suggest an attack on a Pirate Base, so I know it does happen though I can't speak with certainty as to how often or what makes it decide. I assume it would be less likely to suggest an attack on pirates that you currently have some kind of arrangement with and more likely to attack those that may be raiding your bases and ships.

And in my current game I've swung back and forth, paying for protection when I feel I can afford it, being harassed when I can't. Perhaps the A.I. is just confused.

I find the pirates very useful really. When you get a foot hold you can afford to pay for their services at any rate.

Now I have no idea how well they help you out and stuff.
