Loading Problem

Post by KGrob »

Bought a copy of Norm Koger's "The Operational Art of War" a few years back. The date on the receipt seems to be 4-23-2007.

I had an XP (32 bit) system then and I remember loading and playing the game on that system and I don't recall having any problems with it on that system.

But I have a much newer system now, a Win 7 (64 bit) multi-core machine. I tried to load the game up on my new system and can't quite get it loaded. I put the disk into my DVD drive and a single file appears that is named "OperationalArtofWarIII-SetupRelease-DR". I click on that file and it looks like it starts to load (or at least do something) but then is just loads and loads and loads but never actually gets loaded. As far as I can tell...nothing happens really except that I can't use my computer when it seems to be loading.

Anyway...

I've been trying to find a solution to the problem but as yet have not figured anything out. Any ideas? Anyone?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I noticed upon inspection that there is a discolored portion of the disk on the side opposite the title and serial number...a clearly good sized section of the disk has an obvious blemish. It's a smooth blemish, the disk is not warped or anything...in fact, it looks like a chemical or something was spilled on it...it has colored rings on it, sort of looks like a drop of gas or oil on the surface of water...it's that same sort of rainbow color type look.

I don't think I left it in the sun or anything (although I couldn't absolutely swear to it) because my storage shelf is not near the window. Maybe I moved it by mistake when I was cleaning but I don't even know what a sun blemish looks like. I keep the disks in their original containers so I don't think any sort of chemical got to it.

Anyway, I suspect that blemish may be what is causing my loading problem althought I suppose it may have been there all along. Anyone know what causes that sort of a mark?

Also, I have to say this again, I think I played the game on my old XP computer (although again, I have bought and played a lot of games over the years and my memory tends to blur). I'm pretty sure the game worked fine when I played it before.

So um........what's the extension to that file? Is it a zip file. If it is, and I suspect that it is, then all you have to do is unzip that bad boy. On the other hand it might be an autoloader file that has an extension ".exe" and you may have to run it as "XP compatable" to get it to work correctly.

Lemme know if this helps. If it doesn't then we'll try something else.
