Anyone interested in a group game ?

Post by wg2829210 »

I've always been interested in a group game of either WIR or PACWAR.
With Dec 7th getting close, if we got together now to hammer out the details of this, it might turn out to be an interesting journey.
I've always had a few positions I've wanted to play in this game as part of a team. The first was MacArthur's command. Playing MacArthur would be neat beacuse I would get to send really annoying e-mails to everyone about the importance of my command is being overlooked. If your interested, let me know.

Sounds like fun, but how would you handle the mechanics of playing with more than two players?

You would need 3 people on each side.

The first senior commander sends the email to the first subordinate, who forwards it to the second subordinate who forwards it to the opposing commander.

The opposing side does the same thing.

As assets arrived in Pearl Harbour for example, the over-all commander would need to assign them to his 2 subordinates. He would order those assets to go to one place or another.

He would list the units and their destinations in the email then forward it to his subordinates.

The subordinate players are not permitted to issue orders to those units until they have come within their area of operations.

In this manner, the 2 subordinates can check on each other, that neither have confiscated any assets.

We tried this, along with another group, for PacWar a while back during one of the first few releases. It ran for a couple of months, but we kept on getting bogged down when an individual could no longer play and we needed a replacement. Also, in order to keep up the pace we sometimes had to skip an individual if they were late with a turn, which caused further drop outs. Unfortunately, relying on a 6 person game might end up in bogging down as well, unless you play one of the shorter scenarios. This is probably a better way in playing a group game, as you have a much closer and realistic deadline for the game to end.

People leaving is a basic problem with this idea. And it may very well making the whole thing un-workable, but for now I'm an optimistist. Also, since we may never get enough people for both sides; one side playing against the AI, I feel is more workable. For me, the joy, in a group game, is not so much the game itself, but the fun of organzing a group of people towards a common goal. As for myself, I would throughly enjoy playing a minor role where I could continuosly complain of not receiving enough men and supplies. For now, for thoses who share my vision go out and find others. Think of it, in terms of starting a sandlot baseball team. We need people who are enthuiastic, committed, and who definitely want to be here. Also those with opposing views on please continue on. I need to here from everyone.

I'd be interested in doing this. Since I have no social life and flexible work hours I could get in several turns per week.

Thanks for being interested
I'm thinking of a kick off date of December 7th. Also I'm thinking about doing this in one of two ways. The first way is simply passing a saved game file around and having the highest command advance the game. The other way is more extravegant; we can have someone role play FDR. Where FDR can also be the game master. Everyone fowards there e-mails to their next higher command and the Nimitz and MacArthur battle it out for influence in front of FDR. If Nimitz wins we go the central Pacific route, or if MacArthur wins we go the historical route. What'd you think? However, an absolute dream game would be where lower commands first submit SITREPS all the way up the line, and in turn from FDR down, everyone submits Operational Orders. So, at the end of the week, the gamemaster(s) input all the OPOR's from all the lower commands. A complete game would have both sides Human. And such a game would also make use of statisticians. Like said that would be a dream game. Everyone who's interested please talk to me. I even want to hear if you think I'm crazy.

How about this - each 3 months the theater commanders get to submit a plan to the JCS complete with a list of needed ships, aircraft, and land units. The JCS can then approve of plans and allocate resources to the theater commanders.

pacwar group game

That'll work it does address the chaos of everyone moving sitreps and opors in the space of one week. So what your talking about is kinda like a three month plan for each command.
Also for those who are hardcore about this game call me. So I can get an idea of who we have on hand.
