RE: Harpoon Classic scenarios

Any word about the Ultimate Edition 20th Annivesary Bundle of H3 and HCE yet? March is almost gone. I'm looking for a replacement for Fleet Command since it doesn't operate the best in Windows 7.

Question

Post by hermanhum »

Have you tried the demos for both games?

There is a demo available for ANW.  It is now expired, but if you dial your system clock back to January 1, 2009, I think that you can still run it.

I've run the tutorial scenario on HCE and like what I see even though I lost my sub, tank and frigate. I was a little more lost with H3.

Problem

Post by hermanhum »

That's quite understandable.  HCE is commonly accepted as the easier of the two games to 'jump into' and start playing right away because much of it is based upon Windows format.  Unfortunately, ANW is based on older DOS format and thus more awkward to learn.  It isn't impossible, but it may take a little while longer.

Both games are reported to work okay with Windows 7.

However, I have run into a fellow using Win7 who says that he is unable to play due to some problems with colours appearing on his screen. That is why I recommend you try the demos.  If it runs okay for you, then the game will be okay for your Win7 installation.

If you don´t scare MS-DOS like environment, ANW isn´t too difficult to get in.
I tried both and got better into ANW. Just playing small scenarios and plotting courses and attacks manual is quite easy, so I sticked with ANW.
(At the beginning I thought the mission editor was just for creating scenarios, so I didnt use it.-
Not reading manuals doesnt help sometimes [;)])

But I dont have in mind to put you away from HCE, its your decision. I guess both games can be fun without knowing all the things there are to learn.

Well what I'm really wondering is if the Harpoon Ultimate Edition bundle of both games (H3 + HCE) is ever going to be a reality.

They did have the games bundled together for sale, before.  So, I do not see why they would not be able to do it, again.

Unfortunately, this thread was viewed over 700 times without any response from AGSI so I doubt that you will receive one, either.  Guess you will just have to wait and see.

It won't be a reality in the next 30 days if that helps at all. My understanding is that it is still in the plans.
