What is the general opinion of the G3M3 Nell that come availible May of 42. It has the H-6 Radar, longer range than the G4m1 Betty and carries the same bomb and torp load. It is slightly slower and has one point less durabilty. I have decided to build it in numbers and field at least one unit to see how it does.

The radar will not become available until that device does. I had the same reaction as you when I saw that the later model Mavis has radar. Then I found out that it only gets the radar in 44. My enthusiasm fizzled.

As to the Nell vs Betty, I see no real superiority of Betty over the Nell. The longer range on the Nell could be good for air searching. But I would not set the range on Betty's or Nell's to greater than the range of the fighters you have to escort them if you have naval attack set. So the extra range of the Nell is best used for naval searching.

Nice thread guys! [:)]

Am I missing something on the D3A1 to D3A2 upgrade? My first thought is to keep building the D3A1 until the Judy is available am I off base?
I've searched and haven't found anything on it that's why I ask.

Thanks!

Here is a list I compiled of what planes I thought were the best by year. Orange means they changed from the previous year. Have not gotten to 44 or beyond yet [:(] This is with PDU on by the way. PDU off changes everything [:)]

No, I don't think you've missed anything. That reduced range can really hurt as you will want to engage the American carriers as far away from KB as possible.

Once you get to the Judy series I would follow that. Only near the end it becomes interesting. The D4Y4 carries the nice 800 kg bomb while the Grace can carry additional torpedoes instead. Both are nice to have. The D5Y1 comes far too late (and is actually worse) to be useful.
