Port/TF repair question

Post by Hyunster »

Here's a quick question on ship repairs. In order to make use of the port repair facilities, can a damaged ship stay in a task force, or does it have to be in the "port" (i.e., not in a task force)?

I've found that AI controlling other HQs tend to appropriate ships in port that are being repaired!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, I do not know a way to play normally with at least one HQ under AI control (even operational). He steals ships with Reinforce HQ command. Those badly damaged will remain, but those with only "paintwork scratched" will go. Some kind of solution is to : (i.e. - let the ships lay at anchor at Tokyo)
- set the Imperial GHQ location to Tokyo
- press "alt+R" while pointing at Tokyo to Reinforce Imp GHQ (do it for few times) - game has some kind of reinforce limit
- the ships should remain at Tokyo

Try it.

Of course if You want to use additional repair facilities available in some ports with shipyards - ships must stay in port, not in TF.
It's logical.
the more You play - the less You understand ... :p

Reinforcing Tokyo

Hmm, correct me if I'm wrong but I have a feeling that reinforcing Tokyo you will quickly use all preparatory points assigned to GHQ. Of course this is the way to stop computer HQ's from doing the same, just the solution is rather peculiar. In principle, you would achieve the same by, let's say, scuttling all damaged ships. There is no way AI could use them any more.

Sorry, I meant to say: "can a damaged ship stay in a task force at port,"

To get ships repaired at maximum rate they have to be in port - best port is one with shipyards .
Ships in Task forces have only a small chance of 1 or 2 points be repaired per turn .
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)

That's correct, but I'd add that ships in a TF - even if the TF sits in port and doesn't move - also have a small chance of adding an additional point of damage per turn.

A ship in a TF is considered to be "at sea" even if the TF is in its home port and doesn't move. Ships "at sea" can only repair at most 1 damage point per turn based on a random number compared with their durability (higher the durability, easier chance for the repair).
Still playing PacWar (but no so much anymore)...
