Planes and Art Questions

Post by Zemke »

This is may be a dumb question, but I have not been able to find any of the aviation art in my game, and was wondering where it is and if anyone was working on new art like in the old WitP, and how do you add art for these mods covering a different theater like Russia I see people working on? The reason I ask was I was wondering how to add some German planes to scenario 2, and if I did how would I put in the art for them........and last does anyone have any data worked up for what the ratings of say an Bf-109e would be?

Search around a bit, you can find a good bit about plane art in the "art mod" thread, or at least in the download on page 1 of that thread.
The AE-Wiki, help fill it out

The aviation art is in the ART Folder.

Each aircraft has three separate pictures linked to it - a Side view (for unit details screen), a Top view (for animations) and a top blank.

Allied and Japanese art is grouped separately, and the side / top / blanks for the aircraft are grouped together - so in total there are 6 files for in game plane art.

In the editor you define the bmp slot which indicates to the system where to look for the correct art for your aircraft.

Adding art is easy if you already have a picture - just paste the tile into a blank slot on the main file. If adding an Me109 I suggest that you paste it onto the file attached at Post 176 in the thread here...

I'm not trying to flag my own work (much!) but rather if you start playing either the Reluctant Admiral scenario when released or any JuanG's Alt WNT scenarios you won't have to swap art files.

If you are looking for good German Art might I suggest you go here....

as this game uses the same side art format.

Hope this helps - ask if you want more detail.

Also, to help with keeping things lined up properly, I made a gridline tool all the planetop art bitmaps that you can overlay in either Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro to help keep things lined up with modifying plane art files.

It can be found here: tm.asp?m=2188991

ORIGINAL: Red Lancer

The aviation art is in the ART Folder.

Each aircraft has three separate pictures linked to it - a Side view (for unit details screen), a Top view (for animations) and a top blank.

The top blank image is what they call an alpha mask. It defines the areas of the top view that become transparent in the animations. The aircraft top view and alpha mask MUST be perfectly aligned or you will see some strange effects.......

Cheers,
Reg.

Hence the gridlines I made available. The grid makes it possible to keep the imagines perfectly alined on the planetop and planetopalpha bitmaps.
