Only when I started a game that I edited from scratch, the game would crash repeatedly, again and again at the same point, earlier or later, depending on how much editing I did.
When I edited enemy empire starting locations, variety and distribution of independent civilizations and black holes, the game would crash pretty soon after starting, i.e. in the first 10-20 minutes. When I edited less items, the game would run for 1-2 hours until it crashed repeatedly at the same point in time.
It also appears to me, that the crashes are related to constructors either picking up cargo for construction or when trying to automatically find a spot for placing (research) starbases at black holes.
I don't know if this has been said earlier, but maybe it helps finding the source of the problem.
My current workaround is to repeatedly start new games, save at start, launch the editor, see if I can live with the setting, exit the editor and reload the savegame to play.
