How do you queue missions?

Post by Malevolence »

I've been trying every known key-stroke I know to queue mission orders. I can't figure it out. These guys seem to only accept one mission at a time and then go dumb.

I'm pretty sure queue commands has been around since at least 1993?

If you right click on your ship, I believe right at the bottom, there is something that says que next order. You then tell it to go somewhere else or do what you want. Not shure how well it does, I havn't used it yet. I just know it's there. I will try it later and see how good it is.

I looked for that as well, because I saw it on a resupply ship that has been giving me fits. It doesn't exsist on other ship screens. I've been trying to use it for explorer ships and failing miserably.

I also note that I seem to give most of my instructions with game "paused". The game seems to choke on that. The missions don't show up or update. Did anyone with any 4X experience test this game? Stars! worked better.

Select a ship, then go to the target (the system you want explored, the location of a mining base, etc).  Right-click on the target will bring up a menu that includes "Queue next order".  Works for me.

Try this out. I made the mistake of saying right clicking on your ship. Yes select your ship, then you have to go through the galaxay and then right click on where you want it to go, or do, and then you should see the que next.

I got frustrated as well, and found this out accidently.

I tried the que. It works. I was able to take my scout ship and tell it to go to his star, then that star. Sadly, I can't tell it to go to the other star after that. So basically you can only tell it to do 2 things and that's it. I guess that is better than not being able to tell it what else to do I guess.

It would be nice to be able to que up to five or morea or put in a rule for types, for example when type X stops .. pause game and let me know etc..
I can see how big and complex star maps could really lose stuff...
well it is new nd LOTS of changes are coming we are told by those that know!

I don't understand why UI design standards that have been around since the early 90's are missing here.

Command queues you select by ctrl+target or something similar? Doesn't anyone else expect to see a ship/fleet's route on the map when it selected?

When I select a box on the map by holding the mouse down and dragging, the map doesn't zoom to that area... it does select the ships in that area, but isn't that usually with a shift down? Shouldn't something like that zoom to that map area? seriously?

So far i've found that you can't queue missions for ships ( or at least trying to can be risky ) unless you are back in the sector view. This seems to work well.

But IMHO the right click should ALWAYS bring up the contextual menu. That keeps you from getting that fleet you just told to run around killing five mining stations to stop halfway through the third and go refuel with half full tanks. [:@]

I am constantly clicking on the map to try and find somewhere that will allow a mission selector. On top of that, if it's a "default" mission for that object (like patrolling a planet) it doesn't give you any indication of the mission. You have to click it, unpause, and then wait to see what shows up in the summary window under mission. It makes no sense to me in terms of consistency.
