New General Quarters Sound

Post by Von Rom »

Please find attached a new sound file that issues a General Quarters alert. This sound replaces the "two bells" that is heard whenever a scenario has been selected.

Simply download the 1015.wav file, and then unzip it into the following directory (based on the default installation path):

C:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor\SOUND

Be sure to back-up your original .wav file with the same number.

Have fun!

2 bells

Post by mogami »

Greetings. GQ is not two bells. It is a steady ringing of the bells. followed by 3 rings.
Two bells is more like changing the watch.

Hi Mogami: thanks for your reply :)

I was probably unclear in my original post. The new sound file I attached IS a "General Quarters" alert.

This new sound replaces the current "two bells" sound that is heard after a scenario has been selected. I am aware that the "two bells" sound is NOT "General Quarters".

Hope you enjoy the new sound. . .

Hi, Sorry my bad. The file is very nice. except........"This is not a drill" My CO's would have had a cow if that was ever announced over the 1MC. General Quarters General Quarters all hands man your battle stations. Set condition Zebra through out the ship make readiness reports to DC central, General Quarters"
Prehaps "This is not a drill" was the way it was passed in WWII

I don't know, Mogami...

Post by RevRick »

we were enjoying Sunday noon chow coming back from Reftra in Gitmo when the 1MC announced "This is not a drill! This is not a drill! Fire in the Asroc Launcher. All hands man your General Quarters Station. That is. Fire in the Asroc Launcher. All hands, man your General Quarters Station!" Followed by Bong, Bong, Bong, etc....

That got our attention!!! We were at Condition Zebra in 1 minute 38 seconds, had cold water on the asroc launcher in 2 min. 15 seconds..

Fortunately, it turned out to be a high pressure air line breaking and hitting some grease - made a pretty white smoke.

Love it....

Two bells, one bell, forty bells.... sounds WAY cooler than the original...

and definitely adds to the gaming "ambience", so to speak! Thanks very much for this.

If you come up with any more, please post 'em!

It does things to your adrenal glands and makes you reallllly focus on what is going on, doesn't it - especially when the word "Fire" comes into play!

We had a bunch of Marines with us on this trip as a matter of fact. They were going back to spot for us on NGFS quals at Culebra. Everything was fine in the transit from Gitmo to Rosie Roads to refuel, and then to Culebra. The (excuse me) jarheads had the run of the ship (almost) and scared all of those babies who hadn't got their sea legs yet half to death - until we pulled of the North coast of Culebra and caught the long Atlantic swells - we began a real slow, long roll. That was it. The next thing we know, the marines were in the after crews head holding a prayer meeting. "O God, make it stop!"

That's Okay. Anyone who enjoys running up a beach with a sixty pound (if not more) pack on their back with bad guys shooting at you has my admiration anyday. But those guys who drive off the stern of the LSD's in floating tanks trying to turn them into submarines are NUTS! That thing has the freeboard of a barn door!

Hi RevRick
well I never had any hassle on board ship (at times a Mike boat can really push it though) but others really had a bad time of it

Tracks ? man them are a blast, but much better in the crew commanders hatch, then inside the body, sometimes, we made our landings more dry from a boat then from the track

but that is one thing about the our jobs (those that did or are still doing), what is a blast to us, looks bad to others, some of the stuff you do with out thinking about it, would make others shudder

which as you say, we knock each other, but we all know how importent each other is, and most of us at least, respect the rest

While we are on the subject of sounds, which wav file is the sound when a ship hits a mine in the game? I want to use that as the sound when a new email arrives because it usually means a turn has come in and things are about to happen.:) I am too lazy to go through all the sounds to find it so I thought if anyone knew it already it would save me some effort.:)

To "This is not a drill" or not, that is the question

Post by Toro »

Actually, the use of that phrase onboard ship is up to the CO. We used it on my cruiser until the new skipper came aboard, and he said, "We'll tell you if it's a drill, otherwise just move your..." -- well, you understand.

Still, Boatswainmate's let things die slowly... it still came out on occasion.

I reallt think the sound should be either "Duck and cover" or "RUN AWAY." Well thats what my AC commanders should be saying. They always get sunk.

Ross,

Since you are one of the Matrix guys you should have a list of what the sounds are. Which one is the claxon that sounds when a ship hits a mine?

Hi :)

I have downloaded a ton of sounds off the web (I like to modify the sounds in all of my games - heh), and I couldn't really tell you.

When I saw the UV scenario start screen that takes you to the battle, I knew this sound (General Quarters) would fit in there nicely :)

I'm also using some new "sub firing torpedoes" .wav sounds as well. . .

I was just curious because in the movie, the ship's trumpeter plays the accompanying alert music. That would be a nifty addition, if it could be found somewhere.

By the way, I made the switch and it really does add an extra little kick to loading the game - thanks.
