mmm - More refuelling woes?

Post by JudgeDredd »

Right - either I'm not getting the "supply ship" thing, or it's not working (I don't mind putting money on the former, but I'm pretty sure, from what I read about them, it's the latter)

I have a Resupply ship deployed on a Gas giant. I sent my Construction ship all the way to this Resupply ship to refuel by selecting my construction ship, right clicking on the resupply ship and selecting Refuel at resupply ship

So after the construction ship took an age to get there, it eventually scraped it's way to the resupply ship (the costruction ship had ran out of fuel), it eventually got to the resupply ship, resupplied it's energy, but not fuel and then showed Mission Complete!

So I did it again...to see if I was doing something wrong, and sure enough it only ever replenishes energy - not fuel. So what gives with supply ships? Are they really porked or should I go back to playing something simple like Plants vs Zombies?

Screenie below shows a picture of my Construction ship Scoundrel of Geminur - it says it's completed it's mission. Note it has replenished Energy, but not fuel.

In this pic, notice I've given my construction ship an order to refuel at Geminur Emperor (my refuelling ship)

An again - notice it's saying it's completed it's mission and it's empty of fuel!

This one shows my Resupply ship - nice and fat with fuel but reluctant to give it out, apparently

And the purpose of resupply ships?

Since you ordered the construction ship there manually, does the resupply ship have the proper/correct fuel that the engines of the construction ship use?

I have no idea. I didn't know they were "fuel" specific in that my ships used different fuels.

I'll check

Edit
No idea about this. If you mean by looking at the Ships design and seeing the fuel used, then they both use Caslon. I wasn't even aware this was significant though.

Check the planet to make sure it has Caslon on it. If it doesn't... well that's your problem [:D]

I don't think it matters what fuel source the resupply ship has, it can still extract caslon and give it to ships even if it uses hydrogen. It just can't use that caslon for its own fuel.

Ok - it looks like it's my fault as the Gas giant doesn't produce Caslon. I had no idea about this. I just thought they manufactured the gas to what was required.

But here is my other issue then (and it might be linked to my issue with the economy and luxury goods)...according to my exploration ships - I've discovered 2 sources of Caslon. Now that doesn't seem an awful lot to me. Considering these resupply ships are meant to keep your fleets supplied so they don't have to go all the way back to ports, 2 sources is nothing and not nearly enough for the size of system I have - I know I only have 100 systems, but they seem VERY spaced out - so resupply ships, with such a lowly amount of Caslon giving planets, seem worthless

Ok - my bad with regard to choosing the wrong gas giant to take fuel from.

However, I'm confused with what the Expansion Planner is telling me. It says "2" in the Sources column for Caslon. Now is that the number of places I'm mining for it? Or is that the number of places I have found that produce it? Because if it's the latter, then it's wrong - because I've actually found at least 5 sources of Caslon. And if it's the former - does your resupply ship taking Caslon from a Gas giant not affect this number? If it does, then it's also wrong, because I think I have two miners mining for Caslon and I also have my resupply ship taking some...

I think I'm very confused by the automation...almost like it does...but not.

Look if there are any gas clouds with Caslon.

I do believe the "sources" column shows how many sources you are mining, not how many you found.
Go to the second table, set it to "Ressources by your empires demand" and choose to filter on Caslon. This should show you where you can mine Caslon.

Yes - I eat my hat and apologise...no refuelling issues - I was collecting the wrong kind of gas! [8|]

You will find caslon in about 80% of systems, most strategic gases are very common
