How do you patrol?

Post by HsojVvad »

I keep reading in threads about how ships can patrol. Well I tried this, and I don't see it. Can only certain ships partol? Can we even patrol? If so how do we do it. I have no idea how to.

Put the ship on automate (as long as it isn't assigned to a Fleet) and it will Patrol where the AI sees needed. But not necessarily where you want.

AH, that is what I was afraid of. I would love to be able to set the patrol routes of where I want them to go.

You don't. First, there's not enough fuel in your ships to patrol for more than a few minutes. And there's no auto-refuel function yet, so you would have to take all of your ships, tell them to refuel, and then set all of their patrol routes again.

Single-man logistics kills games for me. Which is why I'm not touching this again until enough patches come out. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea and even fun, but unplayable the way I'd like to do it now.

You can patrol a specific planet, or escort a specific ship manually. Select the ship, the hover your mouse over a planet and wait for it to change the cursor, it should say patrol.

You patrol by selecting a ship and hovering the cursor over a planet until you see the arrows going both ways. When the arrows are going both ways you right click and the ship will be set to patrol.

You build a resort by clicking on the planet then right clicking and selecting to build a resort. If there is something to see at the planet you can build the resort. You can also build colony ships in this manner, or quite a few different ships. Likewise, the constructinn ships can be selected to build any number of things.

What I want are bookmarks. I have a number of planets that I want to snap the screen to, in close up view, with deselecting the fleet or ship that I currently have selected.

I see what you are saying, go to the planet you want, then use hot keys to select the fleet you want and then you can order your fleet there. Make sure Lock is not on.

Can't you just do the shift-ctrl + (1-0)? I do it for ships all the time, I am shure you can do this for Planets or Space stations as well.
