early torpedos

Why-o-why would you bother with putting them on ships, especially early on. They just don't hit, even when you get computer targeting assistance.
So, I am after the reason for using them early? Is the answer: 'don't they're just place-fillers'? Because it seems to do you little good to make use of their range when their accuracy is so poor.

Glad to see you bought the game......having fun yet?

But yes, they are mainly base buster's right now. I don't use them except on star bases, defense bases or cruiser and above. All the others get guns.

Have you ever seen the Mellenium Falcon ever get shot down? No, I havn't either. I guess the pilots are just as good as Captian Solo

Thanks for the tip.

Ive figured that Armor early on is useless and now that torpedoes are.

Im slowly finding the "perfect" combinations.

Isnt it funny i believe torpedoes are better than beams?

I am having lot of success with torpedoes from the very start of the game, my ships are quite fast and manage to keep at range while bombarding enemies from afar due to superior torpedoe range :)

Torps seem to work well for me too.. the only nuisance is when the enemy is running away and my ship is trying to stay at max. range instead of closing in, allowing the enemy to outrun the torps.. I've seen ships play this futile pursuit game until they ran out of fuel. This applies to higher tech torps too, though.

Torpedoes against bases seems reasonable but others? Perhaps in large numbers or closer attacks ?
