I've played through August-the Western Front has gone well. All the rest is just on the edge of major action. There will be plenty of screenshots in a couple of days.

The reorganization dialog is really a nice touch to the game-so much easier.

The Italian theater is quiet, but large A/H forces must be left there. There are some elite mt divisions here-too bad they must be left in the area doing nothing. They can move, but it would be riskey to do so.

The Turk Army has made very good time in moving south into Palestine. On lite corps has moved by rail all the way to Aqaba. The main body of the 4th Army is organizing around Jaffa. Some units will need to remain in the rear along the coast as a precaution with the British.

It did not take long for the English to enter the war-nor to start harassing the Ottoman Empire with the Royal Navy.

This is a better view of the situation in East and West Prussia. Keep in mind that there may be additional Russian forces that have not been identified by German intelligence. There is cause to have some concern about the current war plan.

Georgian Front

The Ottoman 3rd Army is making headway in moving to attack positions for the planed assault on Kars. If all goes well, the attack will be launched in late August, but it will be without the corp which is already on the border.

West Front-South

Although there are strong German forces in the south (particularly the 6th Army), the French are known to have large concentrations of forces there. It is also evident that the French are about to launch a major attack-most likely into Colburg. The German 7th Army will be defending in that area. Although the 7th has some elite mountain divisions-it is lacking in artillery. The outcome of the defensive battle is in question.

West Front

As explained above, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Armies will initiate the campaign with the advance into Belgium.
The 1st Army had an uneventful advance to the north and west of Brussels-reaching its inital objectives.

The 2nd Army laid siege to Leige, but the fortress, although reduced, did not surrender. However, another large detachment of 2 corps from the 2nd Army succeeded in attacking Namur and Army reserves were able to exploit into Brussels-capturing the city.

The 3rd Army fought one small battle against the French on it advance through the Ardennes. Even though it did not reach Dinant as planned, it has gained some good ground.

The results of these initial battles are in the following reports-including a view or two of a detailed battle report which is accessible after each battle if desired.

The battle of Namur is a good place to start.

The 2nd Army reserves could have been deployed in another direction other than Brussels, but Clearing the way for a rapid advance by the 1st Army was its primary task at this point-so Brussels it is.

West Front

The capture of Brussels did result in some loss for the German Army-this was expected. An elite infantry corp took some significant losses, but it was not withdrawn from the front.

The 3rd Army had one little scape with the French. It won the battle and was able to continue its advance.

West Front Overview

This map shows the current position of German forces after the initial week of the war. It also show the planned advance routes for each army and detachment. The thicker blue line is generally, but not always, the HQ element with the main body of each army. The thin line is a single corp.

It is expected that the 1st and 2nd Armies will be inside of France by the end of August. The 3rd Army has a somewhat more dangerous situation now as it failed to reach Dinant in the initial push. It will be attacking across the river into an area that may not be strongly held-it appears defenseless, but that can be deceiving.

The remaining German armies are free to join in offensive operations now. The 4th Army will move due west to avoid any gap opening up by the westward movement of the 3rd Army. The 5th (a strong detachment) Army will also move into Luxembourg and then promptly attack south into Longwy. Heavy French attacks are expected in this area.

The 6th and 7th Armies will remain on the defense until the intentions of the French command have become clear.

Image

There were two reserve coprs railed in from Berlin. One went to Trier and the other to Aachen. One will promtly join the 2nd Army in Liege and the other will join the 5th Army at Metz.

Balkans

The Serbian Army has crosses into A/H. The main body of the A/H 5th Army will move northwest in the hopes of a quick battle with the Serbs. If that does not occur it will then move to the south taking a position to the west of Belgrade-to be ready to attack by September.

Elements of the A/H 6th Army, including a mountain corp, will move into western Serbia. By September, it may be possible for elements of the 6th Army to link up with the 5th this cutting supplies to any Serbian units to the north of Belgrade.

A/H Russian Front

In accordance with the Conrade plan the A/H Armies must launch attacks into Russia. The 1st, 3rd and fourth Armies will advance into what appears to be a void-but it is not.

The 1st Army will advance towards Warsaw in the hope of drawing off some Russian forces that appear to be massing against Germany.

The HQ element along with the siege guns captured both Liege and Antwerp. This was the second round of siege activity for the forts at Liege and the first at Antwerp.

West Front

The series of moves by the 1st to 5th German Armies went according to plan. The battles were all somewhat successful. The one unfortunate event is that the 2nd Army was not able to reach Mons. The main reason for this failure is that its forces were still tied up at Liege thus limiting forces available for a breakthrough attack. Just 1 more corp would have been enough.

France launched one big attack at Metz, but broke it off before achieving success. This is a new attribute to the Gold version; in the old game the attacks would have continued until all units were damaged. In this case, that would have brought a victory, but at a high price.
