Mutli-tasking

Post by Fafner »

I have WitP opening up in windowed hoping I could run it in the background, but when you switch to a different window, WitP just halts.

Is it possible to run it in the background?

WELL GOOD FOR AE! It must be the generation gap here with me being......well an old guy. What is it? The game is not hard enough for you A?....Short attention span. AE running in the background is a bit silly. Maybe you are a very organized person or just need lots going on to keep your gray matter working.
I find it is necessary to watch games such as AE to see what is going on but I guess there are folks out there who can play the game and write the great American novel or some such thing, or just HAVE to be dong more than on thing at a time but it looks like you just will have to play the game and that's it but that is the way life is at times. Maybe you can do something like read a book..(ya remember what they are) during them boring parts of the game.

I am very saddened to read how age has diminished your mental capacity.

That being said, I take it from your response that running AE in the background is not an option at this moment.

Thank you very much and take care,

I'm not sure what you are trying to do Fafner, but I often do an ALT-TAB out of WitP while it is doing the clean up work at the end of a turn and it completes with no problem while I am doing something else. ( I also have minimize WitP when using windowed mode ) Are you trying to have the entire turn run? If so, do you have combat reports, etc. on? they need an input to continue.

Interesting.

When I alt-tab out, it acutally stops execution of the turn completely. I have to tab back in, it delays for a bit, and then starts up again.

I do have combat repots on.

Computer is relatively new (purchased 4 months ago) quad-core intel.

Is there a setting I can turn on that may fix this?

Its refreshing to meet someone with a sense of humor. I think you have reason to do what you are trying to do. The reason(s) you can't could be many and with a little luck you might find a way. I only tried what you are doing once and the game was less complex than AE. A friend who knew more about computers just said it was the nature of window mode and some programs mostly games. I did talk to one fellow who claimed to get it done with two monitors but he said he had to write his own little program to do it. so good luck

As for my decline in brain power I think it is a myth as I have been this dumb ever sense I picked up my first computer. Plug it in, turn it on and if it don't go call my tech who is a good friend. Heck its not even a brand name but a custom built fluid cooled (fluid XP Pro) duel 9800GTX+ video cards,Phenom 2 quad core (the one that runs on DDR2 memory), has a nice HDMI 23 monitor and other goodies. Its like driving a corvette when what I need is a ford LOL. I truly hope you get done what you want, and have to believe you can find someone one on the tech forum and if not try Tom's Hardware Guide forum...good luck!
