PBEM Replay Bug Fix...

Post by Ross Moorhouse »

This last week we have been testing away of getting rid of the PBEM Replay Bug. The one that shows incorrect replays.

What we would like those that are PBEMing to do is this.

A) When you are about to run the Replay please close down the game. Then restart the game and then and only then play the Replay. This should show true results.

B)What we found was that if a person has the game running and has say been playing a different battle and then closes that battle and then plays the PBEM replay that the incorrect replay will show up.

So what we would like you all to do is play as in A above and post in this thread your finding.

Cheers

Yes it might be a hassle but we are also working on a fix that will be done by the exe. This is all part of the process of refining a great game. :)

I learned from PBEM opponent to delete save file and then unzip again (when IJN player) to see same results. It works. Since I am not playing allies, I dont know about their problems, but my opponents sometimes complain that the combat replay is not matching the combat results I see.

Ah o.k. - so this isn't the final solution - good.:)

Yes and no. First we need to know if this solves the problem. If it does, it means that one of the 5000+ variables is not being cleared out properly. Whether we can eventually find the culprit is not clear, but it would help to know if this is the likely cause.

Just curious...

Hi all,

I think I remember that I read that you were experimenting with integer number
emulation of float point number for RND seed (this, supposedly, fixed problems
with similar games by other companies with same problem).

I am just curious...

We changed our random number generator but it didn't fix the problem. We are pretty sure it is a variable not cleared when you exit from a game.

Well I am mostly an idiot when it comes to programming, but in that case could you not simply clear all the variables in every instance the new game/savegame/whatever is loaded?

Or just load the complete game engine anew, every time new game/scenario/savefile if fired up?

With 5000 variables, finding the one that you missed could be tricky, especially if they're spread out over many source files.
I love it when a plan comes together.

A game (me = ijn, opponent=allies) ended because opponent saw he sees a different compat report. I told him about this thread, and that I, as the IJN have the correct results, but that did not wash with him. he sent me save001 as a zip file, and I unzipped and it is the same as what I saw. I asked him to send it in plain text combatreport.txt file. When I have his, I will send both of them to you. It is frustrating to say the least.

Did he restart his game before looking at the replay?

I encountered this problem in all my PBEM games as US player (different replay from Japs), someone on The Blitz forum adviced this tip : Japanese player before ending turn must save and exit battle, then load and can continue as usualy (End turn, save and exit, send to me). It strange but this tip work, all replay are identical.......

PBEM Problem

Post by jheydt »

Just got back from vacation and saw this thread. Ever since version 1.04 I have been having a problem with starting the game. I am only playing one pbem game now. When I start the game the opening screen with the player choices comes up. The Japanese player is turned on (green). I am unable to select pbem game. I then have to quit and restart. When I do this I can select the pbem game.

Just thought I'd throw this out. Never had any other problem with UV and still don't once I get it running.

I 'm confused
Last two turns was different again.....

My opponent (Jap side) use this procedure mentioned above and I always start combat replays from fresh start.....

We use three days/turn setting and from day #2 things are different......

If this happen again I send last turn to Matrix.

When v2 patch comes out soon this will all be fixed.

This is from the list of the items in the up comming patch...
Program now requires clean start for PBEM execution. If any other saves have been loaded or new campaigns started, before execution of PBEM, the program will now alert the player that "Security Procedures" require a program restart. This will resolve the VCR issue and tighten PBEM security some.
