no PDF E-Book indexed manual

Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory now comes to the PC in a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame! Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the PC version accurately represents Ancient and Medieval combat where you make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield. This forum also supports the Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows and Immortal Fire expansions to Field of Glory.

mi1291,

If you read the Game Specs, we note that the manual in this release is online (so that it can be updated) and in-game. We reviewed the online documentation before release and felt that it was comprehensive and that separating our documentation from the updated online docs wouldn't make sense.

Regards,

- Erik

My english is bad, very bad.
But If I read game specs I don't understand the game came without a printable version of the manual.

I have buyed a lot of wonderful matrix games and this is the first time I can't study manual on a printed paper.

Just a little problem.

It's true that this is quite unusual, but we felt that given that Slitherine preferred the online updated manual route in this case, it would make sense to stick to that. I will ask them if they can provide a "print friendly" link on that page to print all the contents out at once though.

I want a manual with great artwork and historical notes.
The FoG tabletop game manual and army modules seem to have them (I don't have them though).
I want to learn more about the armies I'm playing.

Count me as another person who is extremely unhappy with no pdf instruction manual.  You should compile at least an initial one and maintain a "changes to rules" sticky.

If you want something really nice you'll need to get the Tabletop book - http://www.slitherine.com/games/field_of_glory

We cant really package that up inside the game when it costs just as much :)

It's quickly dawning on me that the html rulebook doesn't include all the rules. With a game like this I want to know ALL the rules. I'm not paying more money for a rulebook. I don't need anything fancy. I'll take html if I have to, but I at least expect to be complete.

A full manual would have been useful. I printed off the help pages to act as one (adding page numbers to link to the index) and it seems fairly comprehensive to me as a new player. An appendix showing such things as individual unit movement, missile and combat values would be really helpful though.

Great game btw and the multiplayer option is excellent although I would prefer not to have to keep the internet connection open throughout each gameplay.

Which rules is it missing? We're continually tweaking the help files to improve them so maybe there is something we missed or maybe you're just not looking in the right place? The best place to ask the dev team questions is over at the games forum, as they dont come here.

maybe Im just too ADD for the layout on the web based manual.

Agreed, detailed info on combat mechanics is really lacking, and also battle examples, how does rally works, all that... The "manual" is enough to play and understand the actions, but that's all. And I just refuse to pay for a miniature rulebook in addition to the computer game...

very disappointed in the lack of a pdf manual, or easily-printed html manual.

Do you have an updated PDF manual for Rise of Rome (FoG 1.1) ?

No not at the moment. The basic game system is the same so the difference is the Digital Army Generotor which is hopefully self explanatory.
