As the allied player, this CV composition is what I always strive for.

1942 : 1 CV per TF
1943 : 1 CV/1 CVL per TF or 2 CV's (if not enough escorts available, as frequently happens)
1944 : 2 CV's or 2 CV's & 1 CVL or 1 CV and 2-3 CVL's per TF. I find putting 3+ CV's in a TF is "begging" for too many uncoordinated strikes, even in 1944.

While some of these configurations do go over the limit, at times a shortage of escorts requires it. But these configurations keep the Allied player generally "close" to the limit, reducing the probability of uncoordinated strikes. And the last thing you want to have when facing down the KB is uncoordinated air strikes!!

See Rule 7.2.1.11

"The coordination of air strikes is affected by how many Carrier aircraft are based in
the TF launching a strike. The chance of uncoordination is doubled under the following
circumstances:
»» Allied TF in 1942 and the number of aircraft in the
TF is greater than 100 + rnd (100).
»» Allied TF in 1943 and the number of aircraft in the
TF is greater than 150 + rnd (150).
»» Allied TF in 1944 or later or a Japanese TF at any time and the
number of aircraft in the TF is greater than 200 + rnd (200)."

I'm assuming that this means that if you have 95 carrier A/C in a TF in 1942, and the escorts have 5+ float planes then you would be considered over the limits and be un co-ordinated??

Float planes don't count afaik, certainly as Japan adding in the CS types is a must for free scouting while not affecting KB's punch.

OK, post-script (through the tears.)

This, uh, didn't end up like I wanted. Revenge is over-rated. 'Nuff said.

Ok i admit to a morbid curiosity here, did the AI gum up the harvesting machine ?

sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Well im a pacific newbie prefering to always play land battles before.
Could anyone guide me to a rough composition of allied CV taskforces.
So far I get that you need 6 DD for each TF but what about CA etc ??

Well, as said before you will need a lot of CAs and CLs. Go for the modern ones with the best AA. CLAAs really should not be in any TF but carriers. Also, many players use fast BBs for surface fights. My feeling is they are more useful escorting carriers. They can soak up some bombs and torpedos and bring a lot of firepower to the fight.
