Does anyone happens to have the history of this ship during all of 1966? Any help would be most appreciated.

From DANFS
Mazama returned to Florida 23 December to operate out of Mayport until August 1965. On 20 August she moored at Davisville, R.I., her new home port. Her deployment schedule was also changed and the next year she was assigned to the 7th Fleet.   Departing Davisville 17 March 1966, she arrived at Subic Bay 5 May and for the next 6 months supported units of the 7th Fleet in operations off the coast of Vietnam. On 3 November Mazama was relieved by Shasta. She then headed back to Davisville via the Suez Canal, completing her round‑the‑world cruise 20 December.   After a cruise to the Mediterranean in late 1967 through early 1968, Mazama returned to operate with and supply ammunition to the 2d Fleet into 1969.

Thanx, but I'm looking for something more in particular about events around an attempted rescue of a Lebanese freighter off the coast of Japan around October of 1966.

I found this cruise book and they list the rescue as 8 and 9 September, 1966 and they were working with USS Universal Pride. I have not found out any other info so far.

Thats the event Nomad, I had the date wrong but the cruise book did not have the details of the event. I found thedetails in one of the crew members journals that was online. Thanx for the help everyone. Here is the event that I was looking for, for anyone that is curious. Its three pages long for the day.
