Da Babes for the newbie

Post by Tuhhodge »

Hi Guys,

Firstly, please accept my thanks for putting so much effort into these projects. I'm quite new to the game but relish the chance to play with the added realism that your mods offer.

I have a few questions which many inexperienced players may be wondering about the Babes mods. My apologies if the questions have been asked in the past but I couldn't find them.

Firstly, can you explain the difference between Da Babes and Da Babes Lite in layman's terms. I've tried to get my head around the various Babes threads but I still can't be sure that I understand which would be appropriate for me as someone who plays against the AI. Am I right in regarding full Da Babes as suitable for PBEM because of the extent of the changes, while Babes Lite is intended for games against the AI?

Secondly, I'm a bit confused as regards the isntallation process. I initially clicked on the attachment links in the Da Babes Version 002 and opened and then copied the files into the Art and Scenarios folders of my game installation as appropriate. Is this the correct process?

Thirdly, I now have the usual Scenarios together with new Scenarios 26 and 27 in my Scenarios folder when choosing a Scenario to play. Have I effectively installed Babes and Babes Lite, with the former being accessed via Scenarios 1 and 6 and the latter via Scenarios 26 and 27?

Lastly, assuming I want to play with all these wonderful new mods but play against the AI from 8 December, which version and which scenario is appropriate?

Advice eagerly sought! Thanks.

Hello Tuhhodge. Thanks for the kind thoughts. I think you will like it.

Only Babes Lite has been released. It has 2 scenarios Scen026 and Scen027. (DaBigBadBabes is a work-in-process and it will be a couple more months till it comes out). As we find errors and as we add more ships and tweak things a bit better, we release revision "versions". The latest is version (revision) 003. You can find them here tm.asp?m=2436531
Secondly, I'm a bit confused as regards the isntallation process. I initially clicked on the attachment links in the Da Babes Version 002 and opened and then copied the files into the Art and Scenarios folders of my game installation as appropriate. Is this the correct process?
Sounds right to me. But I suggest you use the version 003 scen and art files. Just download those, and do the same thing with them - but please let them "replace" the older 002 stuff.

Sure sounds like it to me. Except there's only Babes Lite. Scenarios 1 and 6 are just the original stock scenarios. Babes Lite is Scenarios 26 and 27.

Babes Lite was designed to be just like stock (but lots better, in our highly opinionated opinion) and can be played PBEM, or against the AI (same AI as stock scens 1 and 6), or H2H, just like regular. BaBes Lite Scen 26 is the Dec. 7 start (like stock scen 1), Scen 27 is the Dec. 8 start (like stock scen 6). Again, recommend using the latest revision (version) 003 file sets.

Hope you have as much fun playing with it as we had making it. Ciao.

My PBEM opponent and I are going to play Babes Lite as soon as he is ready. I have been familiarizing myself with it by playing against the AI and I'm really enjoying it. I'm sure the Big Bad Babes is going to be a grogs delight when it comes out.

JWE you are a Gentleman. Thanks for the clear explanation. [&o]

I will 'upgrade' to version 003 and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

When I finally figure out how to play the game, I'll try a PBEM. Right now it might be a little ahistorical, with 'my' side capitulating within 3 months having stockpiled 50,000 pairs of shoes on some distant Atoll and lost all my ships bombarding Tokyo harbour with hula-hoops thrown from the poop deck...
