That auxiliary fuel tank looks a bit vulnerable but is obviously intended for deep breakthroughs.

Cute <3

I fear that with the added hatch and extra equipment, it'll be at risk of collapsing under its own weight, though...

It's an "IED". That one is planned to be used once the allies occupy Germany. But in order to not be classed as terrorists, they paited the thing with military markings.

There are a lot of 2 cylinder sportsbikes that produce big power and torque. Admittedly Trabants didn't [:)]

It reminds me of when I owned a '72 Ford LTD station wagon... I always wanted to paint it up like an aircraft carrier because it seemed big enough to launch and land carrier planes without a catapult and arresting wires. For some reason, my wife would never let me (it was primarily her car.

Or an early-late seventies cadillac....My old 1980 diesel Eldorado would have been the perfect launching pad

That would work as well! Or a Buick Electra 225 would do in a pinch.

Yep. My point about the 2-cylinder thing. Forgot to mention it was the size of a push mower engine. Or maybe just a scooter engine with some sheet metal around it.

I bet it wouldn't take much to get killed in one.

A push mower with 500-600cc? And a typical scooter engine is less than 150cc. Also, apparently the Duroplast (not sheet metal) body-shell of the Trabant was very strong and, according to Wikipedia, they actually outperformed contemporary Western hatchbacks in crash tests (although the placement of the fuel tank is a bit of a worry).

At the speed you could drive with those things... yes it did take quite a lot to get killed in them. [:'(]
