6th US Army

Post by Andy Mac »

Anyone know the army and corps level armoured units that would have supported 6th and 8th US Armies if Downfall had went ahead ?

Not really Che I am playing with it but its a Looot of work so I wouldnt count on much

I got the stuff I can do easily from my own sources i.e. BPF, East Indies Fleet, X Corps most of 6th Army just pulling together 10th Army on Okinawa but its months of work

I will keep going until I get bored

Well I kept going and did 1st 6th, 8th and 10th US armies so most of the main Allied LCU's are done only take about another 30 hours to get them all to the correct OOB/TP/Locations HQ's etc etc thats why I will get bored of this one.

I am assuming the Stillwell's 10th Army was converted to containment on PI and garrioson of Okinawa when Coronet was serious so he gets 2 US Divs (93rd/97th), 12th PI Div and maybe 6 or 7 Indpt Regts to contain North PI freeing up 6th Army for Coronet and 8th for Olympic.

This is literally months of work and a lot of guesswork

I am going to assume 6th and 8th stage out of the PI

Sigh.  Typed in the table from p. 40 of Giangreco and then immediately found it reproduced on the second page of this pdf: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/890254/Operation-Downfall-The-Devil-Was-in-the-Details

I didn't find a lot more OOB details for the Allied side in _Hell to Pay_.  Don -- please let me know if there is anywhere else I should be looking ...

Andy,

When I researched the US OOB for AE, I didn't find any corps/army tank, arty, etc. battalions slated to go from Europe to the PTO, except what you see in the game (although many of the arty units were consolidated into the various "Corps Artillery"). All the indep't bns in game should be available to support the Sixth, Eighth, and First armies for Downfall.

I am trying to reduce the number of units in play to keep it semi reasonable so Corps Arty units rather than Indpt Bns etc etc

I may even do all air units as Groups rather than Sqns for the Allies just to keep it within the bounds of sanity.

I have most of the allied ships in sorta the right place at sorta the right time with sorta the right refit

Most but not all of the allied LCU's are now done I just need to review commanders, exp, TOE etc etc

About 50% of the allied ships are done but I haventeven touched on splitting the 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet ships yet or even working out which subs are at sea or where the merchantment are on day 1 etc etc.

Air I am dreading and have not even started yet
