Operation Watchtower

Post by David O'Dell »

I cannot get Operation Watchtower to show up on my megacampaigns list so I can't play it. SPWAW, and all three megacampaigns, including Operation Watchtower disk were downloaded to the recommended destinations and have not been altered. I have looked in the megacampaigns folder and see another folder downloaded with the Watchtower files. What am I doing wrong or what do I do to have this show up in the megacampaigns list so I can play it? Thanks in advance.

Under the MegaCam folder do you have a folder Operation Watchtower 42? It sounds like your missing the *.cfg file in the MegaCam directory. I will post a copy along with the proper looking directory tree just in case you have a nested directory problem when I get home from work. Check this thread for help on this matter from the past. Nested directories. Included is also a picture of what a proper tree should look like expanded out.

David, did you use the instructions from here?

Were your other megacampaigns showing up? Do they run?

I'm not quite sure how this works so I will do my best. It looks like I just post a reply which will be attached to this thread as opposed to being linked to a specific reply. First Jim1954, no I did not use those instructions. I downloaded and upgraded to 7.1 first and then bought the megacampaigns and loaded them on without using any SPWAW ugrade or install features included with them. Desert Fox and Lost Victories worked fine (once gmenfan reminded me to give them adequate time to save when quitting the game). Thanks for responding.
Now on to gmenfan. This problem definitely is related to what you and Jim1954 have inquired about. As I have said before, I am not very computer literate. I am just enough to get me into trouble. Anyway, for some reason my computer will not display your directory tree. It runs the program but will not read the file. However, I did look into the directory on my computer to look for the *.cfg file you mentioned in your first reply and was able to guess (gulp!) that a directory issue is causing the problem. It looks as if the Operation Watchtower install is creating another megacamp directory inside the existing megacamp directory. To answer your questions, I have both Desert Fox and Lost Victories and they are running fine. SPWAW and both MC's were installed using the recommended install paths (SPWAW was downloaded off your website and not from the MC disks). This is what I found when I looked into the directories. I went to Matrix\SPWAW\Megacam. There I found a folder for each MC along with the *.cfg file for Desert and LV. No Watchtower *cfg was found. When I went into the OW42 folder, I found two more folders and a logfile file. The two folders were megacam and sound. I went into megacam folder and found Operation Watchtower 42 folder and Operation Watchtower 42.cfg file. I went into the OW42 folder and it had all the OW42 game files in it. Based on your earlier comment and the fact that the *.cfg files for the other two working MC's were in another place, I guessed that the install program had done something wrong when creating the directories. I took a chance and moved the OW42.cfg file and OW42folder to the megacam directory where the others resided. When I did so, I got a warning that the OW42 folder already existed (as documented above) and it asked if I wanted to overwrite with the new folder. I said yes. (I figured I could always reinstall if I screwed up). After doing this, I exited out and ran the SPWAW program. There it was! OW was listed with the other megacampaigns. Just to be sure it was working, I played the first two Tulagi missions and it worked fine. Now the $64,000 question, did I do the right thing? Will moving the OW42 folder and *.cfg file to the same directory where the other two are fix it or will I have problems later? Thanks for all your time and help.

I think that as long as the proper files are in the proper folders, the game doesn't care if you copied and pasted or installed via extract.

If I'm wrong on this I'm sure someone will bring it to my attention.

You got the hang of forum posting, it looks like.

At the bottom of each reply is a little button called profile. If you click on that you can see that you may be able to send that poster a direct email through the real world or a private message, read by only you and the recipient(and the guy running matrix's email server), through this forum.

There is a search button on top of the forums that will let you quickly locate info by specific topic and other things.

Hope this helps and welcome to the insanity.

extra folder

Greetings, Sometimes the mega campaigns are placed inside an extra folder. You need to cut all the files and paste them up one level (and then delete the extra folder)

C:matrixgames\Steelpanthers\Megacampaigns\extra folder

As long as you move or copy all contents of secondary identically named directorites up to the first directory of that name everything should work fine. All sounds get copied into the main sound directory named :\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\snd. If you notice within the Matrix directory tree only one folders shares the same name twice, save. One is located within the :\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\save and :\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\MegaCam\save.
