Should Germany really inherit Vichy fleet?

Post by borsook79 »

This has bothered me in HOI series too... Germany inherits all the Vichy fleet after the country's collapse... Should it really be so? not only is it unrealistic but also bad for game balance, suddenly Germany has a fleet on par with UK. I'm especially interested what PBEM players think of this.

PS. on a unrelated note - an event "home army is striking again" should actually be "home army strikes again" wrong tense...

In my current PBEM game as the allies it has not concerned me as the allies as by the time of my surrender of France all I had left of the French fleet after hard fighting with the Italian Navy were 2 ships both with about 1 step each remaining. If you use the French navy aggresively there is not much to hand back to the Axis if they take over Vichy France.

In the current AAR the case is the same.  Very little left of the French Navy after the Italians had their way with it.

Hmmm, that's a bit different, in my game I inherited 1CV, 12BBs, 6CA and around 5-6 SS This is effectively doubling German fleet...

In my current game its may 1942 and Vichy France is still in existence. I will let you know their fleet strength if they collapse. Maybee the answer for the allies is not to conquer them completely?

But there is an event about Vichy collapse that fires up regardless of Allies fighting them.

It's called End of Vichy in German event file.

Do not forget that while France is under your control you can ask the sailors to scuttle the vessels before they fall into enemy hands.  This is a handy item for your surrender checklist.
