What is wrong at Dutch Harbor?

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-Playing latest v, 6/6/42, Allies.

It is taking forever to build a level 1 airstrip at D.H. As of this date the strip is at 54% completion. I've been working on this since PH day.

Details- There are 2 Eng units there, with a combined total of 21 engineers and 31 engineer vehicles. Supply stands at 18630 vs 696 need. There is no other construction going on.

Comments and suggestions, please.

Thanks, Hugh Browne

Are your engineer units in 'combat' mode? IIRC, they won't work on a/f construction efficiently or at all in 'rest' mode.

ETA: It takes forever to go from a size 0 a/f to size 1 a/f in most cases. After that, it's a bit quicker.

Dutch Harbor has an SRS of 0.  Building even a level 1 airbase there is going to be very difficult and take a lot of time.  Locations with an SRS of 0 are supposed to be difficult to build.

Dutch Harbor is a good anchorage, but the island has not good spot for an airbase.  During the war the airbase for Dutch Harbor was on the next island over.

You are also building the airport in winter months which I think slows things down. It can take months to get to lvl 1 at Dutch Harbor. I dont even try anymore.

At the real Dutch harbor they started out with a seaplane base and then extended it to have a hard runway... but they had to cut into one of the hills a bit. Check out my Dutch Harbor Attacked section: http://www.researcheratlarge.com/Pacific/NA50/ and this photo of the airfield under construction: http://www.researcheratlarge.com/Pacifi ... rbor02.jpg
Follow the line of the Revetments to see where the runway was being planned to go. Another shot is here:
