This is the first time that we have met on the battlefield. I usually play as the Allies but have decided to give the Japanese a shot, so Borner has agreed to be the Allied Player this time. Note: I am Playing 3 games at the moment: 2 as Allied Player and this 1 as Japanese...
Our scenario 19 has the following: 200% ship commitment for both sides, jap sub doc Off, Allied Damage Control ON, no 4E attacks below 12K, no single ship TFs, no auto victory except at Noumea or Brisbane, no night attacks, no corsairs on CV, variable reinforcements..

IJN report
May 1, 1942
Turn 1 for me was overwhelming micromanagement at first. Knowing that I would have to do things a little bit differently this time, I looked at the ships and ground troops schedules to see what would be arriving. I also had to block my thoughts of what I would do if I were the Allied Player.
I have torn a page, of a battle plan, from Isoroku Yamamoto's personal journal. I am using this as a basis to build upon for my grand conquest of the South Pacific and invasion of Australia. To do this, I have several objectives to complete within the first 4 turns and then a couple more before the end of the 2nd week.
I created Task Forces with leaders Yamaguchi, Ozawa, and Nagumo to handle the details of covering the first of my objectives. My next Task Forces have some very aggressive leaders like Tanaka who I wanted to complete their missions without turning tail at the sign of a weak Allied CV TF being spotted in the area.
There are many transports available, and converting them into barges afterwards, to transport supplies to front lines, will be a high priority. I plan to use the massive transports of 3000 Load Capacity to move supplies from Truk south to Kavieng. Then use barges to move everything "South from Rabaul". If special units are needing to be moved forward quickly I will restructure my SC fleets into a FT TF for this 1 operation.
So far I have calculated the number of FT TFs needed for troop transports and the speed at which they will be unloading and returning to port. I have designated most of the INF units and support units that will be relocated to better build up aggressive and defensive capabilities. I have also decided to use all aircraft appropriately for ASW and Naval Search while my CV TFs planes stand ready on Naval Strike. I plan to move my CV TF's slowly and conserve fuel and operational points for launching strikes with maximum aircraft.

IJN - May 4th

It is now TURN 4 and all operations have been very successful. The entire 4th Nav Gsn [LC 2922, AV 108] from Truk has captured Lunga. The entire 144th Rgt [LC 6922, AV 132] from Rabaul has captured Gili-Gili.

There have been no Allied Surface contacts except for SS Greenling who tried to put a fish in the side of my Shokaku just after it left Truk. There was also a sighting of S-42 in The Slot who managed to sink an MSW of mine who was escorting a supply transport for Lunga.
Borner has been flying his A-20 Havocs and Hudson Bombers to Lae to let me know that his pilots need training. Soon it will stop and he will have to try it from Cooktown's airfield.

Imperial Japan continues to move troops into strategic positions in the South Pacific. The war plan is going so well that the next major operation will soon be leaving Truk. Commanding the Invasion TF is Tanaka, with several CV TF Commanders, Yamaguchi, Nagumo, and Sakamaki, each having very aggressive tactics. The operation will consist of the 8th Area Army and possibly 2 full strength Divisions.

rumors
the rumor mill is working overtime... unless of course the troops at Port Moresby happen to swim in the harbor and notice a 1000 eggs floating around.... its difficult for most minelayers captains to keep track of so many - they eventually hit one... But, they are experts with mines - only a scratch to the ship as they continue on their minelaying operations with another 450 placed.
Borner continues to use up all his Supply at PM with his bombers and fighters as they fly over Lae. He will have a difficult time trying to move troops into PNG and supply them later.

IJN update June 1, 1942
It has been a very long time since the last reported update.
The Allies committed their Bombers from Port Moresby to pound Lae into the stone age. I quote from the Allied Commander "The bombers will stop once those stones become pebbles". The bombers have stopped, either from pilot fatigue or lack of supply. Lae has many ENG units and loads of supply flowing in to repair all the damage done. Support units there used the pebbles and stones to make stronger and thicker concrete fortifications for their AAA and CD units.
In other intercepted radio broadcast, the SOPAC Commander has stationed his INF units around New Caledonia and New Hebrides Islands to "hold positions" in case of IJA/IJN invades those highly valued targets of opportunity.
There have been no Naval Sightings of Yorktown or Lexington. For the record there have been no sightings of any Troop or Supply Transports anywhere near Port Moresby or Luganville.
There are no Allied Sub Sightings either due to the superior ASW search patrols from IJN Float Planes in every task force.
A brief progress report to the Emperor of Japan on the South Pacific conquest.
June 1, 1942
Imperial Japanese Navy and Army have combined to create the largest organized Combat Force in the South Pacific. The Emperor is extremely pleased at the success of the overall military decisions that have proven successful so far and so quickly. Lunga, Tulagi, and Gili-Gili are now very formidable bases with expanding fortifications. Their port facilities are becoming large enough to station Fast Bombardment Task Forces or Surface Combat Forces to deter and repel invasions from the Allied Forces. There are several squadrons of Fighters waiting to be transferred to their new level 2 airfields.
The HQ Combined Fleet has relocated to Shortland Island to oversee all efforts to establish and fortify the Solomon Islands. Additional Fleet HQs will be deployed to the appropriate bases as required. The vast majority of Combined Fleet INF, AAA, and CD units will be fully stationed around the Islands. The Combined Fleet ENG Construction Battalion units have been moving from each base as it gets upgraded to a Level X condition. Base Force ENG units have been deployed and are now in position to direct flight operations of Fighter Escort, LRCAP, and possible Heavy/Medium Bombers. Another INF Division and additional ENG Base Force units are scheduled to arrive very soon, so the Commanders have been very busy with formulating an operational plan to invade farther south to cut of Australia from the "Sleeping Giant"...
The HQ 8th Army continues to direct all land operations from Rabaul. The local Commanders have been laying out the conquest of Papua New Guinea. The East side looks very promising with X locations to establish very strong bases for marching troops over to Port Moresby. Several Advisory Commanders have suggested using Gili-Gili and moving the Invasion Fleets and landing directly at Port Moresby and Lea Lea to cut off any retreating Allied units. Where will they go? What will they do? There are 3 Full Divisions along with many other smaller units being moved into positions from Wewak, Madang, near Lae, and Gili-Gili.
From the Naval yards in Japan. A release date has been set for the Carrier Division Strike Forces to be arriving within the next couple of days. There are also several smaller ships and support craft waiting for this arrival before being deployed into the Solomon Islands.
Massive Fuel Tanker Transports have been filling up the Kavieng, Rabaul, and Shortland Islands to help those mighty BB ships with their appetite for petrol.
There are several large AP Supply Transport Task Forces feeding the southern ports and letting the smaller ships and barges provide for the frontline areas.

Yorktown and Lexington sighted 90 nautical miles SW of Luganville.
It appears that the CV TF has finally sallied forth from Noumea to answer the call of the IJN KB & Invasion Task Forces that slowly creep southward.
Can the Allied Commander afford to hesitate with the CVTF defensive position(s) or can he be in 2 or more places at once? The past few days reports of IJN Long Range Recon Aircraft have been spotted over several bases from Luganville, Efate Port Villa, Koumac, and Basse-Poya. Is it possible there are 2 or 3 invasion Task Forces bearing down on New Caledonia and that Luganville is just a deceptive tactic of the IJN/IJA Commanders? Or is Port Moresby soon to be invaded by FT TF and the 8th Army?

The fleet carriers Kaga and Akagi have arrived in Truk along with a couple of light carriers a few days ago and sailed south to meet up with Shokaku, Zuikaku, and Shoho!!! Several Heavy Cruisers and escorts also arrived a couple of days ago with a massive amount of AP/AK transports. The Transports will be greatly needed in PNG as barges to keep all these little bases fully supplied while the Allied Bombers are still active in Port Moresby. Hopefully a FT TF(s) can be assembled to deliver one of the newly arrived divisions of the 8th Army [under the radar] into PNG.
Current operations are going very well, with all bases being fully stockpiled with supplies. The 8th Army continues to receive lots of INF units destined for Papua New Guinea. The Combined Fleet received several HQ units of the 2nd and 38th Divisions and several others for support.. I need more Aviation Support type HQ Units... Several more INF units will shortly be delivered into The Solomon Islands...

RE: June 7 1942 - Intel update
We are entering a dangerous time as the Allies. IJN ships will be arriving much faster than what Pearl is sending. Also, the lack of activity is curious. There have been very few sighting reports of ships outside of the Soloman islands. I am sure that will change shortly. As for an invasion attempt at Noumea - I have never seen such an attempt, it may be interesting to watch.

It appears that the Allied Sub Commander has parked his SS S-39 at Tulagi... This is a no parking zone and his sub will soon be sunk or out of fuel.... But actually is probably out of torps due to the lucky shots....

IJA Update - June 18 1942
HQ Combined Fleet:
The 17th Army has arrived...
Bougainville has become the new home for the 17th Army. The 38th Division has landed in Buin, 6th Division in Bonis, 2nd Division in Buka, 35th Brigade in Jaba, and HQ 17th Army in Torokina. As more units arrive they will be Fast Transported to these destinations. Meanwhile lots of AP/AK continue to unload other troops and supplies to other bases.

don't beleive everything you hear from Toyko Rose. On a side note: MOrale in the IJN flying boat force is rumored to be low, at least in those that are left. Over 20 have been lost already

IJA Flying Boat Pilot Morale
IJN pilots have really good morale and very low fatigue for the Flying Boat Patrols. I have set all of them to 20 percent Nav Search at 5000 feet. I only lost a few due to operational loss / flak from recon flights of New Caledonia and New Hebrides Allied Bases. Note the details of the following image.... a TF with 4 CV and 2 BB.... I know the Enterprise and Hornet have arrived. The Saratoga is also probably on its way in a couple more days....

RE: IJA Flying Boat Pilot Morale
7-1-42. Very little IJN activity to report. Actually, no sightings of Janap's carriers anywhere near my bases to date. I am sure this will change shortly. US strength now at 5 carriers, and elements of the 1st Marines starting to arrive, making me feel a bit better about my situation on the Eastern half of the map.

IJN report
The IJN reports several Allied Transports TFs sunk East of Townsville. The IJN formed [3] BBTFs to hammer Cooktown, Cairns, and Townsville simultaneously to reduce the Allied Air Wings operational ability, while the KB armada consisting of [5] CVTFs of 10 carriers and light carriers with [3] CSs and [5] AVs set there naval search planes to 50% naval attack and naval search, spotted the Allied Task Forces trying to run south. The combat report shows the results... The Allied commander may wonder if Australia is planned on being invaded.... or if this is a diversion for the real invasion of New Caledonia...

good lesson to not run convoys into harms way for no reason. The KB caught my convoy at sea and more than a turns sail from a port. I split the faster AP's onto a seperate TF that managed to get away.
