Maps....I've got maps

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

Maps....I've got maps

Post by DavidW75 »

Robert,
First let me say how excited I am for this game. Now with that said I was wondering if you could use some maps of West Germany. I have a large collection of topo maps of Germany including areas like Hannover, the Wesser River, Kassel, Nurnberg, and the Fulda Gap. I also have other resources concerning the period. I would love to help in anyway.

Gee, first post is an offer to help. You will go far around here!

Maps are being handled by Marc S (our Art Director) and Iain C so I'll refer you on to them.

Welcome aboard!

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks Rob. I'ld been stopping by the forums for quite awhile, and I finally had to post. It's always a shame to see so much research go into a game and then they screw the maps up. Besides I don't think most gamers really understand the terrain of Germany. I've seen too many maps of say the Fulda Gap that are all wrong.

Nothing real special. Years of research and wargaming the battle that was never fought in central Europe. The maps were part of that research, stuff like that. Still would like to help in anyway if yall ever need it.:)

Ah Byron, you made that list quite a while ago. The trick is to stop you from getting away now....

Work on the game progresses. Like an expanding funnel there are more and more things to do as time goes on and I seem to be at the maximum breadth of the project now. The 'wider' the project the less progress I make in a forward direction for a given unit of work. My desire is to cross things off the list once and for all so that it will narrow down again, but that is easier said than done!

As the program becomes longer and more complex it takes longer and longer to make changes and additions to it without breaking something that is already there. This is perfectly normal of course, but frustrating because there is so much cool stuff (like a campaign game) that I would dearly like to get working on and cannot yet.

Cheers all, Rob.

David, I would love to enlist you but I'm pretty new myself (this is my first project) and I don't know all the ins and outs yet.

What would be particularly valuable to me at this junction would be a discussion of what you thought is wrong with other games out there. I'm not interested in trashing the fine work done by others, but rather to hear of weak spots or underdeveloped areas. There was some useful discussion of Fulda Gap 85 and if you have an opinion on that or Tac Ops or Decisive Action or any of the others, I would be most interested in hearing it.

This applies to everyone else too of course!

Cheers, Rob.

Always glad to throw my two cents in...I wouldn't ever trash another game. One, someone took the time and had the dilligence to complete the project. Two, nobody can ever get the perfect game. Anyways I'll start a new thread for disecting what would make a good game:D
