Research production not at maximum. What should I do?

Post by pcall »

Hello,

I noticed my research production isn't at maximum but my actual output is at the same level as total empire output. What is preventing me from reaching my maximum?

As your empire grows your research effeciency goes down so you cant get it back up. Its designed to stop HUGE empires from getting such a massich tech lead other empires cant possibly catch up.

You will still be researching more than small empires tho but its not a 1:1 ratio with size.

You get diminishing returns, but a large empire still gets more research then a small one.
OP, there are two lines for research capacity with misleading names. If the number on top is GREATER then the number on the bottom, then you have maxed out your research and need more population (the number on the top is given by the amount of labs you have), the number on the bottom is your actual research.
If the number on top is EQUAL to the numbers on the bottom, that means you can produce more research by building more labs

That is likely my problem, I am still a very small empire so my research shouldn't be bogged down. How do I increase my population? Colonizing planets? Is there a way to increase my population in existing colonies?

population increases over time up to a certain max in all colonies you own... colonizing new planets and conquering enemy planets are the two quickest ways to increase your population.

And, unless they have changed it (I haven't been testing 1.04 betas), dropping your tax rate to 0 boosts population gain. Not that you would do that on your HW but on new worlds 1% or so is crap anyways, minds well be 0% for a while and get some pop growth out of the deal.

So what does it mean when the bottom number is greater than the top number?

I had that happen in one game. It was almost twice the potential. Massive increase from bonuses?

It means that you have an empire wide bonus... there are ruins that give +100% to each of the different research fields, and if you are working on the world annihilator you get +100% to weapons.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking, but when I saw it happen, I wasn't aware of any bonuses on any planets I held. I've yet to be able to work on the world annihilator in any game. I stopped playing ultra-slow research, so that could change this time. :)
