A Toast for Our Enablers!

Post by fbs »

Let's face it like men: very few of us would be able to play the game if it wasn't for our wives, girlfriends, mothers, fathers and other relatives who peep at our screens from time to time, wonder what all the funny little thingies are, raise their eyebrows and yet, quietly amused, let us do our things.

These are the enablers that allow us to enjoy our hobby instead of doing something useful like... err... hunting dinner or mowing the grass (which I was just excused from doing today [:D] ).

A toast to them, bless their hearts!

I'll toast to that! But, I'll also toast the real enablers! (that would be the WITP Developers and team)

I was going to say "Hooray to My Mom and The Programmers!", but somehow that doesn't sound right... [:(]

My GF even throws in an occasional "How is the situation at Milne Bay, darling?" to make me think she´s is truly interested,
and nods knowingly when I mention the current bleak situation with heavy flood dmg on CV Shokaku.

I´m a blessed person...

No need to point out that I love her. [;)]

One day I´ll find out that she can whack me around the witp map and she just took the time to identify and pull the
teeth of my most effective tactics. [:'(]

Yea, especially like my father, who said when first time saw I playing AE - you need to concentrate all force of Japan and strike in one place and win the war . On my retort that this is not East front, he said wtf, attack San Francisco and Panam chanel and win the war !

Maybe he was right and this is only victorous strategy for Japan ? :)

AE got me a trip to Maui.  I wailed when an IJN sub torped the S.S. Lahaina and sank her within sight of Maui.  Gave my wife the idea and she got us plane tickets and an ocean-front condo for a week.

When my wife has trouble falling asleep she asks for a sitrep of my PBEM. That works for both of us. ;)
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

I would prefer another means of making my wife tired, sleepy, and happy at the same time,
but......if that works for you..

Last year just before AE came out, I had to break the news to her about *another* new improved WiTP game coming out. I braced her for the news early, a couple months before the release. She took it like I had just informed her that, 'oh, by the way, I'm starting back up on my Heroin habit again'.

Thankfully, she has her own computer for web browsing her horsey and craft sites. We both snicker at one another's hobbies occasionally. She'll tell me about spinning Yak hair and I'll tell her about sinking USN BBs with obsolescent IJNAF aircraft. Sometimes, in the quietest moments, she'll ask me, "how goes the war in the Pacific?"

Vive la differance! Vive les Enablers!

I give her a glass of wine, and I'm good for another three turns.

I don't have the game on my home computer.  I only play at work, so my wife has only the vaguest notion of my obsession.  But I need to tell you guys that she is very suspicious of this entire culture.  I'm sure she thinks there's something improper going on around these parts...
