I agree with Red Argo here Judge. Plus these million dollar bonus babies are sissies and can't stand the humidity.

Imagine you're maybe at a rugby or soccer game, and it's 32C outside with 90% relative humidity and NO breeze. It's taxing on the fans as well.

Here in Texas, that's what the poor high school kids have to deal with in the fall when they play American Football. 7 to 10 kilos of pads, and by football season here it's 35 C in the SHADE and sometimes no breeze.

That's why I referee and play ice hockey... Nice, cool, low humidity environment and there's always extra ice to keep my beer cold!

Thanks bbmike. I have OOTP9 (had 8 before it) didn't buy 10 and was thinking about buying 11.

One of my problems with that particular game is the UI is not all that intuitive to people who do not understand the ins and outs of the game...it's full of abbreviations that mean nothing to a n00b and whenever I've pointed this out (and I have - many times including on their forums) I have been very helpfully, but quite unhelpfully get pointed to various sites...none of which held ALL the descriptions of the abbreviations in the game.

I say helpfully because the forum members are trying to be helpful by doing so, but it's unhelpful in the sense that what I a trying to get across to the developers is they could spend some time putting in popups having the full unnabreviated word and, if possible, a small description...it would help immensely and probably make me want to buy the next iteration.

I don't play OOTP9 much at all because as a player manager I'm not aquanted with the system. I don't understand the drafting process, the rules, designated hitters, relievers, closers - all the things that are crucial to playing. When I did play, I tended to sim each game...why? Because that's the only way I felt I had control over something in the game. If I was to play manager, I wouldn't be taking much part in anything, as my core job would be to manage budgets and find players...and I simply don't understand the mechanics enough.

So whilst I do like watching Baseball (and I'm watching it with a view to understanding it too...like a learning tool), and I would love to have a game I could play, my knowledge isn't at the level to allow me to play any of the games out there.

What's "the Green Monster" - I think they mentioned something like that in the game?...

Is that $170 for a season? Whilst I was watching the game, they were advertising you get a Chilli Dog, Pepsi and seat for $22.

$170 USD per ticket - per person my friend! [:D]

The Green Monstah has so much legend behind it - errected to keep out non-paying prying eyes from Lansdowne Street it's been postulated, former owner Tom Yawkey rumored to be burried underneath it, Wally the "Green monster" living inside it, it's just great to have viewed a game from up there. Caught a Kevin Youkilis batting practice ball on it and suffered a rained out loss to the Florida Marlins [&:] of all teams sitting in it eating piping hot chowdah mid summer [:D]

We'd do it again in a flash - and we will! Those $22 seats you mention are likely in the bleachers. An obstructed view grandstand seat is usually around $50. Obstructed meaning you get one of the 1930's era posts that hold up the deck above blocking the field in some way! Fenway is right up there with its pricing. Here's the current 2010 pricing structure:

holy crap! $170 PER GAME!!

I went to see Scotland v Australia at Murrayfield last year - the whole trip cost me £50!! £25 for the 400 mile air fare and £25 for the ticket

Is there a stadium pic to go with those prices so I can see where each colour relates?

It does depend. I'm thinking about hitting a Milwaukee game this weekend, and prices here seem a bargain...

I think the "Uecker Seats" are the cheapest. $5.00 or so. So I've heard.

Wow, cool pictures! That's a lot of parking. I live in DC and am a Nationals fan. There is almost no parking around Nationals Park. Fortunately I can walk to the park. [:'(]

I'll be at Miller tomorrow night with my son.  The nice this is that the weather won't matter.

What is the point of forcing a walk? I've just watched a game where the pitcher forced a walk on a player.

They were 2 out, 2nd and 3rd were loaded and he forced the player to walk....that made all 3 bases loaded. The only reason I can think he would do such a thing is because the batter that was up was better than the batter to follow....turned out to be a good call, because Ibanez went out to retire the side.

That's exactly why a pitcher will issue an intentional walk...they think the next hitter is an easier out.

It might not even be due to less talent. He might just struggle against left handed pitching more than the guy they're walking, for instance, and the pitcher up is a lefty.
Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily.

Cool. Thanks.

For the batting lineups - what is the general rule? Where do you play your best and worst batters? I know once the game is underway, it's kind of immaterial because the next batter up is the one who was next after the out...but is there a "pattern" to the line ups? Do you mix your good and bad batters so it appears you might get some base hits or better, home runs, each inning...meaning maybe a good batter, couple of so-so batters, then a couple of good ones?

Judge, I thoroughly recommend this book - it takes the official MLB rule book and re-organises it by topic:

Generally you want to get your best hitters the most at bats possible, so they will bat nearer the top of the batting order. Usually, the top two batters will combine speed and on base percentage (OBP) (which is hits + walks), the 3 and 4 hitters combine OBP and home run power, the 5, 6 and 7 hitters may still have power but will have worse OBP and the 8 hitter is the worst hitter right before the pitcher. Also, the lineup will be mixed between right and left handed batters. For most players the pitcher has the advantage against a batter who bats the from the same side the pitcher pitches (so right vs right or left vs left) so the batters may alternate to keep from having too many same handed hitters in a row.

Make any sense? [:)]

Or I could just read the manuald Adam!

Redargo - it does make sense. I used to wonder why a game would track such a useless stat as hitting the ball...I mean, even if they don't get a base run, the hit is tracked. But watching it and understanding now how hard it is to hit...I know why they track it now.

When I was playing my baseball game (I just bought OOTP11), I was always looking for RBIs and HRs...but I know now that Hits are very important too.
