I think I have the most current version, and it installed and works fine for me in XP.

However, when I change the Date to an earlier date and re-run the data load, it only loads the OPS reports and SIGINT reports. No combat reports in the tree. But if I close it all down and relaunch it, it loads everything from the new, rolled-back date. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, that was fixed in the latest update. :-) You may want to download again. Oh, and I did not update the version number, so it still says 1.0.

Oh, OK. I was going by the time. It had been up for download 20 hours, and I downloaded it 12 hours before the post above. I'll get the new one.

That was it. Works great!

Thank you sir for this tool! I really like it. I play against the AI doing 2 turn days and this greatly increased my "turn review/processing" time.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I will plan to enhance this tool over time and I have started working on some designs for the following enhancements:

1. Show graphics for sighted objects such as ships, planes, LCUs, etc. from the reports (including movement info and vectors).

2. Provide a view that depicts combat by area (or hex) so you can track activity over time.

If you have any ideas about how this should look on the screen or how this type of information should be aggregated, post some mockups or suggestions. I'm open to ideas.

I will caveat the above with the fact that I will be taking a break from development for a while as the summer hiking season is upon us. I will fix bugs or other issues and will continue with development in the fall when the weather turns colder. Please submit any ideas in the interim as I will continue my design work and topic discussion over the summer so I'm ready to continue with the coding in the fall. If by chance you are a Java developer and you want to join in the fun, let me know and we can figure out how to work on this together. :-)

Don't know if this is a bug, but I had an event at Paramushiro-Jima, in the Kuriles (I invaded it as Allies and took it) and the map would not snap there. It remained near the Soviet off-map entry box in the north center of the map when I clicked on the event. Is every base hex in the spreadsheet I see in the folder? Or is this maybe something to do with bases near the map edges?

Just wanted to add my thanks for this great utility.
It has greatly enhanced my WITP AE experience - no longer have to wonder where hex xx,xx may be in combat reports. It has
also allowed me to turn off animations, which greatly speeds play. I may be able to actually play a full campaign in 2 years instead of the actual 4 years!

Looks like the base is in the file and that this is a parse bug. I'll correct that and thanks for the bug report.

I can definitely relate and wish this functionality was part of the game. Before Combat Reporter, I was playing in the dark and really was not taking advantage of the information the game provides to the player. I'm glad you are enjoying the tool and I hope to increase it's usefulness over time.

If the developers could add one significant aspect to the game it would be much better organization of operational information. In order to play a game of this size, you need multiple views of information at your finger tips.

Thanks for the comments.

Excellent. (As if I understand what you said.[:)])

For after your summer, if you want a suggestion (don't know how hard it would be), but colorizing the hotpoints where a to-a-hex snap is available might save some clicks. From plugging away it looks like the whole report line might be a hotpoint? Not sure, as the boundaries seem undefined in some cases. Not a deal-breaker, I just like to save my clicks.[:'(]

I would support very strongly the need to do what Apollo suggested about map tracks of identified forces - I remember him suggesting it just before Bodhi's utility stopped development.

I'd also like what was in Bodhi's utility that allowed you to see how long a TF would take to get from A - B given an assumption of a direct line and an input of the speed it would travel at. I have't a clue at the moment - useless at maths!

My only concern is that this is another thing I will have running at the same time as the game - I wonder whether there is any common ground between your work and WITP Tracker?

Combat Reporter 1.01 is now available. I corrected the parse problem for hyphenated base names. Thanks for catching that one "Moose"

The entire line is a hotspot to click on. I will look at highlighting lines that will move the map. They key is to look and see if a location is present in a line. You can look for "at x,y" or "near <location>". If a line has these constructs, then more than likely the map will move to that location. I did fix a bug that you reported on that wasn't working properly for hyphenated base names. [:)]

I'll add the hotspot highlighting to my to-do list.

Excellent, I'm not normally a "detail" player but this helps in getting an overall view and provides some info I never look at.

Questions from a Luddite.
1. I cant get the map, I've set the preferecne to the WITP AE file, do I have to direct it to the ART Folder??
2. Even though I set the date as yesterday, it looks at old saves (I assume for updates) do I have to delete old files to make it more efficient?

Warning, set the upgrade off when reviewing, it refreshes and you have to start again.

Regarding Question 1: Should point to the root folder (J:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition).
There is a file in the tool folder named combatreport.properties.
You can view and edit that file with a word processor (just make sure at save the name and especially the file type is not changed).
When you open the file there should be:

watchDir="J:\\Matrix Games\\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\\SAVE"
==> this is where the tool looks for your games saves

witpDir="J:\\Matrix Games\\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition"
==> this is where the tool is looking for the map. Actually the tool looks for the ART folder to be in that folder.

Substitute J: with your drive letter.

Regarding Question2: the tool reads from the first save there is to the last. No need to do anything for you.

In the file combatreport.properties is a line which reads something like:
startIntervalDate="05/09/2010 02:19 PM"

==> this is the first save the tool reads. The date to start with can be set within "Preferences".
There you also can set (or browse for) the folders the tool needs to collect data.
