My Story, Strange But True

After almost a year of playing ToW, I've become aware that the game has a little quirk when I start it on my custom built desktop. After the WI logo slams on to the screen the game doesn't crash but it minimizes showing me my desktop and giving me a chance to close the game menu. I always found this a bit odd but I figured it was the way it worked. Now that I have installed the game on my laptop I realize the game start up is meant to show the Matrix logo which it does not do on my custom rig.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear, this situation does not prevent me from playing the game. It is just WEIRD.

Chapter 2: Codec, What Codec?

Following up on Doomtrader's lead, I discovered that ffdshow was the C-in-C (The Codec in Charge). I removed it and found a free Codec pack for XP which you know it,
included the infamous ffdshow and a tool kit that would supposedly determine if any installed codec(s) were bad. If it did this I could see where or how it did it.
Of course none of my efforts corrected the initial problem. Here is where I attempt to make a long story short. I wound up installing an updated version of ffdshow and somewhere along the line I tried running the game windowed instead of full-screen. Now when I run the game the matrix logo does not display but I hear it sound effects and the window does not minimize.

So there you have it.
