Well, don't do that.
I have run into this problem several times, I start a game (1939 usually) and play until the AI stops putting up a fight. Then I switch the control to human to see what the AI has been doing. I have had CTDs mostly, but this time having defeated The Axis with the USSR I turned my attention to The Allies. I played turns for The Allies and Neutrals, clearing up the confusion the AI had created. When I got to The USSR turn and declared war on Syria and Lebanon, so I could draw the USA and UK into fray. The USSR units went into the FoW and the UK & USA units emerged.
I also discovered a few text display errors in the Diplomacy Screen
