Well, I usually use Light or Medium Titans...with a slight preference towards lights. I don't like getting too used to the larger titans, because if you ever need to recruit a new pilot, and you're not used to using Lightweights, then your pilot doesn't have much chance of surviving, does (s)he?
I find anything bigger than a medium is just usually too **** slow. That said, most of my designs are Mediums, because the design specs most people ask for call for more weight and space than a Lightweight Titan has.
It's possible to make extremely vicious light titans that can take on Mediumweight titans, but they're usually extremely specialised, and only good at one type of combat.
Trying to make a Lightweight Titan that is capable of more than one style of combat is usually a waste of time, too many design compromises. In that case, I use a mediumweight frame.
The black art of making useful Heavy/Assault Titans continues to elude me. I end up using my space and weight allocations very inefficiently. I have much respect for people are are capable of designing a good Big titan, it's much more difficult than you would think!

Back in the old days when I used to have an internet connection and played often, Hetzer and I seemed to be the only players that actually LIKED using Assault titans. Seems like that trend is continuing now, too. They still get my vote, though.
We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

personnaly i use a combination of all classes (with the exception of recon) and my single assualt titan averages 3 or 4 kills with head shots from its ac20's in the larger matches of course it always has the back up of 3 long range units and 1 srm and a grizzly to back it but it all depends on your style of fighting i suppose right?

I prefer lights. New pilots cannot use anything heavier, and when your pilots become more experienced they can do called shots, ao that few wepons on light ToS will be enought, and they are fast enought.Ah and armor... well best defence is mobility not armor so don't worry very much about armor, have only little for a bad luck.

my current ac20 work in progress the shotgun built for more of hit and run attacks using the 2 ac 20s and power axe or to provide better fire support at a closer range
and korgmiester don't even ask about an ecm or dcs or shield or even flares because atm this thing is on a power diet and will constantly be running out of power with anything else and as for armor this is about as good as its gonna get even though the body is somewhat frail it still does a good bit of damage at a pretty quick pace
firing time for the ac20s are 11 seconds apart and the power axe can be used at any time without much heat gain
all in all this tos still has alot of work to be done for its variant series (i don't stray from original designs to much so i can't rightly call it a Shotgun Mk II) but its proven itself to be a contender in larger matches (and some one on ones but those get kinda rough on the titan and its pilot especcialy)

Hahahahahaaaaa!
I'm willing to bet my Bait MkIV would make make mincemeat outta that thing!
I mean, are you serious?! 2AC20's with a Heat 4?
Only way the BaitMKIV would be in any danger is if I accidentally scragged your powerplant through that tinfoil armour.
Actually, forget that, even easier would be to sic my Invigilator on it...no way you'll ever get close enough to stand a chance =P

I might also like to add, this was one of my earlier efforts, too.
Vinecium armour on the head...what was I THINKING?
Word of advice: Go easy on the big bang AC20s and make something that isn't sniper bait. Remember, those are short range weapons. If you can't close without being shot to bits, the design is useless.

**** straight. By lowering armor in the LOT you could increase it in the head. On average, having unbalanced armor in all locations is not useful. The head, on the other hand, houses your jock, which is much more valuable than any titan. A stray TB shot and he'll be a cinder.Originally posted by Korgmeister

Your arms are severely underarmored, taking into account they hold your main firepower. Your CT is not what I'd call well protected either.
Also, remove 1mm from both side torsos and the RA, APs won't change, and use them for head armor.

hmmm so far today almost everyone of my posts that i mention an ac20 has been getting negative feedback......................so ill ask this is an ac20 your style of fighting or mine? (with full rudeness intended) if its not your style then you probably wouldn't understand how i use it because anything i use that has ac20's is a get in fire get out titan with the exception of a heavy or assualt and as for armor i don't rightly care if i feel its too dangerous for the jock ill eject him no prob ive got enough money to replace my entire team with new jocks and titans and i don't mind taking the time to redo jocks it gives me a chance to make the jock more powerful by getting rid of his fualts

OK, I'll admit I was being pretty cruel.
I really shouldn't be so nasty to people starting out their ToS design...I mean have a look at my starting efforts with the Invigilator (bleach!) and I certainly didn't start out prefect myself. Actually, I made titans before that which were much, much worse, but I thankfully deleted them
I'm notorious for having an allergy to cannon weapons, the bigger they are, the more allergic I am to using them.
If you wish to revise the Invigilator, go ahead, but I've found that a similar stock titan (the name escapes me) does a better job anyway, trading in the large laser and ECM for a shield, more armour and a medium laser...It actually performs surprisingly well as a sniper titan and is handy for training up my Rookie jock to a decent level of proficiency.
(I am getting sick and tired of the AI out-tonning me, so I decided I needed to get a fourth jock to even things out)
Also, if you want to use AC20's go ahead. I will try to avoid making snide comments, because it's not at all constructive. Just don't plan on me ever developing a fondness for the horrid weapons =P

Ever tried smoke screens ? Cannons are a must in a team
for smoke screens and being unstoppable by shields
even at close range.
My average team has a cannon guy, an energy guy
for lighting forrest and a long range missile backup.
You can't usually win ToS without a balanced team,
at least not against a human player or AI a level
higher or more. This will be more true for WS as the
AI has been improved.

If you want to be technically correct:
"After my n00b period I never use anything but Duralloy on the head"
And yes, you are correct about better AI meaning we are totally frigging screwed!
Also, I am about to publicly bite my tounge about cannons, just watch!

OK, i only read first page, but heres what i gotta say...
korg: head armor is the utmost importance for any titan, fill it to capacity! (and for the record, i once got more armor out of vicenium than durralloy for the head, weird, check out the TripUp design, it had 2ap less armor in head with durralloy.) Other than that, yer titan looks like the standard Whip.
white: Technically, light titan with ac20s isnt bad. You got two things that you need to compensate however. First is the heat. AC20s generate too much for a light titan to handle without sacrificing components for heat reg, and even then, youll be pushin the red line. Second is the recycle time. AC20s take forever. It doesnt seem like it on paper, but AC12 vs 4MGs, the MGs do dmg quicker, and not at point blank. This is field-tested, Wasp vs Banzai. (recon titans) BUT, you have one good advantage with AC20s on a light titan, you got some speed on that baby. You can get closer faster, and make it harder for enemies to hit you while you're getting to close range. I might try my hand at doing something like it.
All: I myself like Heavy titans. They usually pack a better punch than mediums without sacrificing TOO much speed to do it. And I like the heavier classes cuz their HtH hurts more. Assaults are the Tanks of tos. (technically, they're all tanks, but who cares about technicalities?) They can take a shitload of dmg, and come through it, unscathed (What? Aw heck no, those dents are... cosmetic! Yeah, cosmetic...) And then unload sufficient firepower to make sure they dont try that again soon. Problem is, they're tanks.... SLOW AS HELL
K, time to read second page
