future 'in game' update system

On the Slitherine forum, I have readen that a new in game update system will be introduced in v1 2 7.
Will this new update system be compatible with a low-speed internet connection ? (the changes are numerous, the updates are rather big and it could take years to update the game)
If not, will there still be patches that the player can download on another computer equipped with a high-speed internet connection and copy on his computer equipped with a low-speed internet connection ?
(sorry for this silly question, but I am still equipped with a very old machine ).
